Keane Scraps Fall Tour, Frontman Enters Rehab

Category: General music news Posted: 23.8.2006
Keane has postponed its fall North American tour while singer Tom Chaplin undergoes rehabilitation for drug and alcohol addiction. The trek was due to begin Sept. 7 in Chicago and run through Oct. 7 in Los Angeles. Refunds are available at points of purchase.

In a post on the band's Web site, Chaplin said he was "having to deal with an increasing problem with drink and drugs, and the time has come to get the professional help I need to sort myself out."

"I feel desperately disappointed to be letting down our fans, but I want to get myself right now so that I can be back on the road for the rest of the year," he added.

Although Keane performed over the weekend at the U.K.'s V Festival, it scrapped three recent shows due to Chaplin's "exhaustion." The status of a European tour due to get underway Oct. 17 in Hull, England, is unknown at deadline.

Keane was to be out in support of its sophomore album, "Under the Iron Sea," which debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. album chart and a career-best No. 4 on The Billboard 200.
