Floyd to Stones: "Get a Life"

Category: General music news Posted: Jun 7, 2006
Artistdirect.com reports: In a recent interview with Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, the 60-year-old Floyd singer-guitarist David Gilmour, suggested that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards suffered from a "strange, sexual compulsion" that prompted them to continue touring and that the two aging rockers needed to "get a life." "I think it's ridiculous," the indignant Gilmour told the paper. "How much do they need? I think a lot of it is the applause. It's a powerful drug, 50,000 people appearing to adore you."

Gilmour is fresh off a string of live shows at London's Royal Albert Hall, but he hasn't trotted Floyd out for a big tour since 1994. A two-disc DVD featuring performances from that tour, entitled Pulse, will be released this summer. Meanwhile, his former bandmate Roger Waters -- who left Pink Floyd in 1983 -- has announced plans to perform Floyd's landmark album Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety on his upcoming tour. And the Stones, despite a head injury that forced Keith Richards to undergo surgery, will be touring Europe beginning later this month.
