Justin Hawkins Says He Was Better Than Bono On Live Aid Single

Category: General music news Posted: 7.12.2005
A year after the song was recorded, Justin Hawkins still insists that his vocals were better than Bono's on the Live Aid single.

Hawkins and the U2 frontman both recorded the same famous line on 'Do They Know It's Christmas?', but eventually Bono's was favoured much to Justin's dismay.

Hawkins said: "I'm the first to admit that in a few years time I'm not going to be able to sing as well as I do now. Your voice changes.

"They slid in his original vocal from before, and that didn't work, mine was still better.

"So Bono actually flew in to redo it. He practically whispered the line because if he was to compete with me as a rock singer, belting out something nowadays, he'd lose.
