Maroon 5 Planning To Write While On 'Soon' Tour

Category: General music news Posted: Sep 9, 2007
billboard.com reports: The campaign for Maroon 5's sophomore release, "It Won't Be Soon Before Long," will continue well into 2008. But the group plans to work on its third album while it's touring to support this one.

"There's not really any material left over," guitarist James Valentine tells Billboard.com. "We are gonna set up a room backstage where we can play together, so hopefully we can start to work on the new material on the road so that we don't have as long of a gap as there was between our first (2002's 'Songs About Jane') and second records."

Valentine adds that the quintet has no sense yet of what direction it wants to go next, however. "Stylistically, we don't know," he says. "We'll see what happens. I'm just excited about getting into a room with these guys and seeing where we're at."

Maroon 5 will, of course also be focusing on its existing material when it hits the road Sept. 29 in Auburn Hills, Mich. With the platinum "It Won't Be Soon..." about to spawn a third single, "I Won't Go Home Without You," frontman Adam Levine says the group will "definitely be playing a healthy amount of new material" on tour. "When you have one album," he says, "you've got to play every song, which may not be appropriate for the set. Now that we have twice as much material, I think that we're really gonna be able to diversify the way the set comes off live. It's gonna be a thousand times better than the first (tour)."
