Panic! At The Disco Stretching Out On Next Album

Category: Upcoming releases Posted: 15.11.2006
Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendon Urie says to "expected the unexpected" from the group's sophomore album, which the Las Vegas quartet plans to start working on in January.

"The next album is going to be stuff that we've never tried before," Urie tells Billboard.com. "That's the stuff that interests us in our music -- just exploring new instruments we've never tried and new sounds that are appealing to us. You'll find a lot of stuff you'd never expect. We hope to please, and we're gonna spend a lot of time on it."

Urie says he, guitarist Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker have started exchanging musical ideas, though no full songs have been written yet. "We've thrown a few ideas around," he says, "It's not something we're going to use for the record but just something that will push us in that direction."

Urie also notes that Ross and drummer Spencer Smith have been taking piano lessons. "We're all trying to improve as musicians," the singer notes. "I like to say we surprise ourselves every day. We try to take control of our own destiny, I guess."

Panic!'s second album will follow the band's hot debut, "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out," which has sold more than 1.3 million copies and launched the singles "I Write Sings Not Tragedies," "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" and "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage." The group also contributed a version of "This is Halloween" to the new soundtrack for Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
