Killswitch Engage Frontman Says Metalcore Music Is On Its Way Out

Category: General music news Posted: 27.11.2006
Blabbermouth.net reports: IdahoStatesman.com recently conducted an interview with Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones.

On being the grinning class clown in a music genre filled with growling young men hoping to resemble baby-punching Satan worshippers:

"I'm usually, like, having a hard time singing because I'm laughing too hard or chasing (guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz) around or doing something weird. We really try to enjoy ourselves. And I think people see that. And if they don't, they just hate us. Because we're being too stupid."

Likening the band's new CD, "As Daylight Dies", to ... breakfast:

"We did not try to reinvent toast," he says. "Toast is toast. Maybe we tried to put a little bit of cinnamon and sugar on it. But other than that, it's still toast."

On the fact that his singing is the foundation of KILLSWITCH:

"I was singing in choirs when I was in school and as a kid, probably from 5th grade on. It's just something I've always kind of done. I don't really think a lot about it. I just kind of do it."

On his opinion that metalcore music, which has enjoyed widespread success over the past few years, is on the way out:

"The dream's over dude! .... It'll still be around, because kids love heavy music; they love to be aggressive. But it won't get as much mainstream attention as it's been getting. So mark my words there. It's already happening."

On the personal hardships of life as a touring band:

"You try and make the most of it on stage. That kind of explains why we are sort of silly on stage. We just really try to enjoy ourselves. Because a lot of the time, it's just so difficult and not fun."
