According to The Buffalo News, Rodney Appleby the bassist for DEEP PURPLE (pictured) frontman Ian Gillan on his North American tour in support of his new album, called "Gillan's Inn" was shot in the jaw after he accepted an invitation to visit a neighbor's house, Buffalo police said Saturday (Nov. 25).

Appleby, 49, was shot once at about 2:30 p.m. when he went to the nearby Fillmore Avenue home of his neighbor, Theodis Johnson, 41, Ferry-Fillmore District officers said.

Johnson is accused of firing a gunshot that struck Appleby in the jaw. Officers Cedric Littlejohn and Daryl Williams charged him with attempted murder, criminal use of a weapon and criminal possession of a weapon.

Appleby is in stable condition in Erie County Medical Center, police said late Saturday night.

"Gillan's Inn", which came out on April 18, spans the four decades of Gillan's professional life and includes some of his friends as guest performers, including his mates in DEEP PURPLE, the GOO GOO DOLLS, and singer-guitarist Jeff Healey, among many others.

"Gillan's Inn" is a DualDisc, and the DVD side has a track-by-track commentary from Gillan, along with scenes from the recording sessions, rare live footage, and other extras.
