Review Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage

Review by a visitor on 13.2.2007

I picked up a wine red Yamaha Stage custom Advantage set at a music store in 1995 as a second set. It quickley became my number one set that I used to play out on strictly due to the great tone of the bass drum. I paid 1,000 for this set used. It is a 9 piece set and came with used cymble stands and pedals.

  Features

The features I love most about this set are the tom mounts. You are able to adjust your tom toms very easily and confidently. They use a ball mount system that you can tweak and turn any way your lttle heart desires.

  Playability

The bass drums have a great sound in my opinion. They are deap, but not sooo deap that you have no tone left. A nice punch. I do NOT like the sound of my rack toms, BUT I have heard other stage custom sets with great sounding toms so it my just be the way I have them set up. Idk for sure. The rack toms are easy to move around to any desired possition which is very nice. The stage custom snare 14 x 5.5 sounds very dead and does not have many dynamics. I traded it in and got the Yamaha 13 x 7 Musashi snare from Japan. Great snare!!

  Quality

Like I said already.... This set sounds good, but it is not the greatest one out there by any means.

  Durability

I use this kit for live shows about 6 -7 times a month as well as frequent practicing throughout the weeks. It has held up extremely good (knock on wood) My only complaint are the legs on the floor toms. They are very thin and are mounted poorly onto the tom itself.

  Overall

I enjoy having my Stage custom set, but I am considering a new set. I will more than likely keep my stage custom set for rehersals, practicing, and a back-up kit of course.

I ordered it from a UK shop called Drumbeat. It was £599 for for a 5 piece set-up (with matching wooden snare) and hardware (pedals, cymbal stands and other bits).

  Features

The kit is very, very sturdy. Stays in one place easily without pinning it down too much. Doesnnullt go out of tune often. Itnulls very easy to set up and take down. The hardware it comes with is very reliable and hasnnullt let me down yet. The kits are laquered not wrapped (like lots of them).

  Playability

I have reached all the results Inullve needed to with the kit, and itnulls very good for doing technical things with eg. the sliding pedal technique.

  Quality

The sound quality is very good. You can get get good effects out of it. It performs better than a lot of kits Inullve tried and the sound it generates is very nice and sucullent.

  Durability

Itnulls very reliable hasnnullt let me down yet. Doesnnullt need tuning much and is very steady for live playing.

I chose this kit, because it had been given good reviews. It did live up to my expectations and is a very good kit for all styles. Inullm not considering a better one, because it suits me fine.
