Review Yamaha Pacifica

Review by a visitor on 28.9.2009

I bought it off musicstore.de. It came with a 50 euro amp and cost about 270 euro.
It was my first electric guitar. A solid black yamaha pacifica 112 with maple fretboard.
I had an acoustic with extremely high action, i was only able to play barre chords and single string songs.

  Features

I don't know what everyone is complaining about, I've played telecasters and high level american strats. Give this guitar to an expert and they'll swear that's what they are playing.
It has a humbucker and two single coil pickups. It matches the equivalent HSS strat almost perfectly.
It could do with a second tone knob but one works just fine.

  Playability

This guitar, because of it's single coils and humbucker can get to ac/dc levels of rock while also being able to clean it up for songs like under the bridge.
It won't rock as hard as an entry level ibanez or clean up as well as a squier telecaster or strat. But it does both as reasonably well as is possible.
You may find it lacks its own particular style as it tries to cover all areas.
This is the point of the pacifica, but sometimes i like to play slipknot (which requires major effects on a pacifica) so it loses a star here :P

  Quality

As i said earlier the sound quality is by far the most versatile of the entry level guitars you can buy.
You wont get a guitar until you spend about 800 euro or so than sounds better.
the build quality on mine seems to be perfect, a year on and no flaws to report.

  Durability

I've never had a string break while playing.
I frequently use the tremolo bar and it's never caused problems for me.
I've dropped the guitar aswell (XD) and it still has sustained no damage (looks or sound)
This is most definitely a giggable guitar. Light, easy on the fingers and so on

  Overall

I chose this guitar as it was recommended by my friend who has quite a few guitars and was also recommended by a guitar magazine as a great starter guitar.
It lived up to and surpassed my expectations.
I had been messing around with an acoustic for quite a bit and had got nowhere.
A year after getting my pacifica I have improved massively i can both do advanced fingerpicking (clean) and I can almost shred properly on it (fat sound) This also shows the guitars versatility. Like another person who wrote a review I'm also planning on buying a gibson les paul .
He recommends it instead of a pacifica (oddly enough as the les paul is 4 times more expensive if you go for an entry level)
None the less the pacifica is the best, most versatile starter guitar.
Unless you plan on splashing a grand into strat you wont get any better.

I Bought it in my local shop back in the null01 for $105, tis coz i dont have enough money to buy other "SHINY" guitars, yet at that time i need a guitar "quick" en "cheap".

  Features

I was a beginner back then, so i dont know all about the stuff, but after 5 years, it began to show itnulls weakness.
the sound was good in acoustic mode, but when switched to "Metal Zone" it lacked the quality you just cannullt play "DEEP" with this guitar.
yet at the time when i bought it, itnulls a good guitar.
To bad the fret board are so tiny. Im not a big guy, but it still give me thee "CREEPS" when i decide to go appregio on it. Itnulls "HARD"

  Playability

Compare to my other guitar the PGM3 series guitar, its was strip of all itnulls title. A nice guitar for beginner. My friends used it alot, said he like the sound, and sometimes i do.

  Quality

The spund is quite "STANDARD" even if you plugit with a BOSS effect, since i change the bridge pick up. i came out "BETTER".

  Durability

The guitar itself is "HARD", frequent adjusting is not required. But donnullt take it to live GIG, the audience cannullt stand the sound. With a proper mix of "NEW" pick ups it came out good.

  Overall

I nice beginner Guitar, not many "EDGE" offer, it does live my expectation though. even so i still want to buy a new guitar to replace it for better "LOOK" en "SOUND"

Well,I bought this P***e Of Sh** in 2004 at a guitar outlet for abt 150 US Dollars.I only wish that I had bought a BC Rich Warlock or something before ending up with this crap.

  Features

This guitarnulls only feature is that u can tell an ididot who knows nothing abt guitars is that its a strat and save yourself some embarassment.
The stock pickups are HORRIBLE and the guitar didnt last me 4 months without having to go fix it.

  Playability

This guitar is only good for power chords, nothing more.U CANNOT expect to play heavy metal or solos on this crap,Only the equally crappy modern day rock songs like Simple Plan and Sum 41.

The lower E string is one SOB and unullll have a hard time getting to it.

  Quality

The sound is awful, all u can expect to play on this is gentle overdrive.
The acoustic sound is good, but it only takes u so far.Plus, theres a huge amt of interference when u switch to bridge and both tremolos.

  Durability

This guitar isnt durable at all.I just bumped it into a wall and the lower E stringnulls tuner got wrecked, not that it was any good in the first place. The tuners need tuning every 4 hours. And after 4 months of purchase,I had to send it for repairs because the input jack had worn out and two weeks later I had to send it again because the tremolo bridge had busted.

  Overall

DO NOT,I repeat,DO NOT buy this guitar.
Save ure cash for something more decent like a Strat,Jackson or BC Rich.
I would recommend the Jackson JS30 because its almost xactly like this guitar, only a whole lot better.

my friend has it and i have played it a lot. he said it was custom made with a gibson body, a fender neck and a yamaha head. we all laughed at him cuz he lies a lot. anyway, its ok, but a good guitar for beginners.

  Features

The features are average, could use better pickups

  Playability

it has good playability and comes with a whammy bar, which i dont have

  Quality

Its got good sound quality through all amps, but then agasin for a beginner guitar

  Durability

The guitar dosnt last long, but i doubt by that time you will have quit guitar or bought a new one

  Overall

Its a good value guitar, but if youve got a lil xtra money id buy something else

I bought it second hand from someone i know. He had only had it for 4 months and sold it to me for 100euros or 140$. It was in pretty good condition only one or two scrathces. Now after 2 years of me owning it it is breaking apart more every sinlgle. My turning pegs are all screwed up and im having big problems to tune it. My bridge is almost fallen off because i used the vibrato arm on it. I got this guitar as a beginner 2 years ago. I had played the acoustic guitar for 1 year before i got the pacifca. I got the pacifica when i was 11 now im turning 13 soon.

  Features

Its best feature is its fender guitars ressemblance. Its worst feature is its pretty bad pickups and its poor sound quality. It also is pretty cheap.

  Playability

I cannot do any solos or any hard stuff with this guitar. Its only OK for powercords. The only song that isnt a powercord that sounds good on it is Californination by the Red Hot chili peppers. All metallica songs sound really bad on it.

  Quality

Sound quality is poor as i said in the other sections.

  Durability

I took really good care of it; for example: i never took it took school or to other places where i could have broken it. Its pretty much one of the less durable guitars ever. It wont last 1 more month as i always have problems with it since 4 months ago.

  Overall

Its good for a 5 year old beginner. I really dont recommend it. I am probably going to get a Gibson les paul studio gold

I bought it at guitar center and paid $250 for it. I bought it a few years ago back in null98 I think.

  Features

Everything else besides the amp input worked fine. It fell apart and was hell to fix. All the other stuff worked fine for me.

  Playability

The soloing for it is alright. I have nothing to say about it here except that it is alright, and good for beginners.

  Quality

It is fantastic. It can create a great acoustic sound and I like that alot.

  Durability

It is good for jamming not for live gigs. Usually, it doesnnullt just break, it is more gradual.

  Overall

It seemed like a good guitar at the time, and it is. I started playing in null98 and it still works except for one minor flaw see *features*

I bought it at Marcus Music, Belfast. It was £150.00 from £200.00.

  Features

It is a basic guitar but for anyone who just wants a cheap guitar to mess around with its perfect and for beginners as well. For the price i think it is good value for money and is a very underated guitar. It has 2 single coil pick ups, solid alder body. Very neat machine heads and all the other usual stuff a guitar would have.

  Playability

If your a beginner it is a good guitar to get you up where you wanna be. Its a good enough guitar that your friends with really amazing guitars wont make fun of it.

  Quality

The sound quality is reasonably good, i couldnt complain about it at all. Obviously you need a good amp as well but you know.........

  Durability

It is a good guitar, i mean it wouldnnullt break to easily but i wouldnt use it at a gig, but for practising or nulljamminnull with friends its perfect.

  Overall

For me when i got the guitar i was a beginner and it couldnnullt have done me any better. I got it because i wasnt sure weather i would stick to playin guitar so i didnt want to waste money on something i wasnt goin to use, so really i got it because of its good value.
