Review Stupid Design Bass Aura Squarifier

Review by a visitor on 30.8.2008

I was searching for a long time a bass Fuzz which preserves my basses and which doesnnullt sweep my fast play in a total blur. I met one of my friend playing in a band in a festival. He is guitar player and was using the BASS AURA with a gretsch G6128T Duo Jet w/ Bigsby. I was totally amazed by the powerfull bass signal of his guitar. It was almost to much basses for a guitar. The next week end I asked to borrow him the stompbox. Two days after I was ordering it. If you like earth, sunn O younullll love the BASS AURA!

  Features

the most original feature is the "adaptive impedance". It detects automatically the impedance of your instrument and is adapting its own impedance to yours! Then you can use it with EVERYTHING. I personnaly use it sometimes with an old analog synth... and it sounds good too!
One pot for adjusting the output gain
One pot called "resolution reducer" (more is the pot high, more "squarer" is the sound)
One pot called "bass exauster" (gives to your sub basses a very good taste!) Itnulls like if all the subs are up with a crazy sustain.
Weak point: no versatility
Strong point: no versatility
You cannullt get thousand of sounds with, but if you like this toy, you wonnullt stay thousands of hours searching for your sound. Itnulls so simple that itnulls plug and play.

  Playability

I compared the BASS AURA with many bass effetcs... The BASS AURA sounds like nothing else.
More subs, more precision, more doom than everything else.
You donnullt loose hours searching for your sound!

  Quality

Before buying it, I compared it in a shop with a big muff and a zvex wooly mammoth.
It wa s amazing. First of all: no gate control as the zvex has. To get the same sustain, we were obliged to decrease the zvex gate control to the minimum, and we had an awful noise (higher than our signal)! No gate control needed and no noise with the BASS AURA!
The big muff has also an higher noise level, and it makes blur with my basses. The BASS AURA has an incomparable precision. It keeps the integrity of your signal, adding squares on the highs and deep and low subs.

  Durability

strong as steel! 12 gigs with and no problems at the moment...
The BASS AURA is handmade by a french guy (manager of Stupid Design). He produces 20 pieces a month only and less than 50 has been sold.
You can push it with your foot without passing through the cover!

  Overall

I bought it 250. Now I use it anytime and I have no regrets. Itnulls finally better than I expected and I see no equivalent to beat it out of my pedal board.
