Review Squier Affinity Stratocaster

Review by Corre on 2.12.2007

I bought the Squier Stratocaster at my local Moore Music store in a bundle pack including an amp (Fender Frontman 15G), strap, picks, electronic tuner, 10null cable, and starter instruction book. The whole deal was $250. The guitar itself is $100. I bought it as my 2nd starter guitar ( my first guitar, a Yamaha, broke). It looks best as a metallic blue in my opinion.

  Features

Nothing special, just a cheap knockoff of a Fender Stratocaster. It has 2 tone knobs and a volume knob. It also has a 5 place pickup switch (bridge, bridge/middle, middle, middle/neck, neck) for the many different tones it reaches.

  Playability

It is really eas to play for most younger or people with small hands but not me. I have big hands. I hate that the fretboard is SO small, but Inullm sure therenulls worse. String pulling couldnnullt be more difficult.

  Quality

BAD!! This guitar sounds very bad compared to just about anything. I would be surprised if the pickups were actually more than a dime. No effects. Much fretbuzz.

  Durability

The guitar is plastic, easily destructable. It prints from fingers and often gets scratches easily. The tone knobs, volume knob, & pickup switch donnullt move easily luckily, so it stays in tune at the right tone and volume. But the input jack is a major flaw. It will never stay still and very often looses connection. NOT for gigging.

  Overall

Not a good guitar. Maybe for a starter but even a starter would know itnulls not great. It was cheap, thatnulls the only reason I bought it and still own it today. For my birthday I plan to get an ESP EC-50, a real nice guitar!

I got this guitar when I was 15. I paid AUD$500 for it. What made me buy it was the fact that it had a great sound AND my teacher was using one that looked like it was one of the first Squier released.

  Features

This guitar is just a cheaper version of an American Stratocaster. 5 pickup selector switch, 2 tone controls, the usual stuff. The pickups though seem to be different from my teachers. Mine had a humbucker.

  Playability

This guitar has an awesome, rich, true sound. It performs extremely well, but it untunes too quickly.

  Quality

Sound:awesome
Static:I got a humbucker, so I cannullt rate there

  Durability

This item is excellent in this area. The only problem is the tremolo arms ease of severely detuning everything with just one push. You could easily use this for a gig.

  Overall

This guitar will NOT be upgraded. Unless I get an American Stratocaster, I wonnullt move.

inullve had this sqiuer for around 3yrs now.i hadnnullt picked a guitar since 1993 and i bought this one to get me up and going again. it cost approx £130 (not part of a guitar/amp pack). i have previously owned a gibson flying V and a US strat.

  Features

to look at, this guitar looks great. blue/white, 22 med frets,3 single pickups, whammy bar, 2 tone controls, volume control, 5 way pickup select switch.

  Playability

i have played some decent guitars in the past and this is a really good guitar to play for the money paid

  Quality

i read in earlier reviews about humming and yes, i had that problem too, cured by using a very good quality lead. output socket was loose but easily tightened (i keep my eye on it). pity they had to put nullpretendnull tone controls on this guitar, i dont use them.........therenulls no point, they just dont work! pickups poor........change them. must admit the neck is great, really like it, stayed straight and i think thats the only reason it gets an average instead of poor mark from me.

  Durability

this guitar could be used to dig up the garden and itnulld still work afterwards! however, use the whammy and younullre out of tune for certain, so i dont use it!!

  Overall

for the money i paid for it, i think its good value. as i said it got me back into playing again. sound pretty awful through a cheap amp but through a decent amp sounds ok. even better through effects pedals in there. saved up enough now for a better guitar, dont know what yet, but i will keep the squier as backup. overall, good value for a beginner or someone like me starting up again on a budget.

I bought this guitar just over a year ago in 2005. I bought the full package with a frontman amp for around $270.00. I bought this gutar for only one reason and thatnulls because I was starting out.

  Features

The guitar body and neck are great but it doesnnullt say what wood is used. Its fallen over hit the wall whatever but itnulls still fine. I donnullt even see scratches. However the pickups and the switch are horrible. The pickups just plain donnullt sound good and there kinda weak. The switch that selects pickups unless at the two ends dont make the slightest difference in sound.

  Playability

This guitar has great playability the neck is absolutely great. You can reach all frets and play fast. The whammy bar is ok.

  Quality

Again beginner guitar this guitar doesnnullt sound that good. After a while just get a new guitar or change the pick ups. It can nail alot of different sounds for different styles of music though.

  Durability

Donnullt even think about using this live theynullll laugh you off the stage, but in the end its the guitarist not the guitar. Remember this is only for beginners. The tuning stayed pretty well I guess. I changed the strings with a full set of DnullAderrio strings. However the ones on the guitar will do fine.

  Overall

I plan on changing the pickups or doing something. I cannullt keep playing this guitar like this. However again if your just starting itnulls a great guitar and it will do itnulls job. Which is let you play.

my brother got it for his birthday

  Features

has ok features, does everything ok, nothing well. output jack is loose and built badly. knobs feel cheap

  Playability

it plays ok, as i said, works ok, but doesnt do anything great. needed a setup straight away. for a beginner guitar it is ok, but for anything else forget it. has very noisy pickups and a cheap, dodgy switch.

  Quality

the pickups suck. they suck tone and are noisy as hell. the amp it comes with in the pack is also not great at all, the distortion sucks so bad, its completely unusable. the tremolo is terrible and i would never use it, give me a floyd anyday.

  Durability

i honestly was dissapointed. anything that says fender, (even "by fender") should be much better, the machine heads suck and it requires much retuning. i wouldnt even dream of taking it to a gig.

  Overall

for a beginner, its an ok guitar, but once you reach a certain level you definitely be looking for a replacement. fender should be able to do a better job. but for the price, its a good guitar to learn on.

got it from sound control in stockton for about £129 a year ago.

  Features

not sure what the bodys made of but the neck and fretboard are both maple. jumbo frets 3 single coils tremlo bridge 2 tone 1 volume 5 way pick up switch 21 fets. good sound quallity although theres some background hum at higher volumes.

  Playability

good playability for the money. the frets are all relativly easy to get to and the bridge single coil gives a good twangy crunch with distortion but the background humm is a bit annoying but you cant have everything. ok for solos but could be better.

  Quality

ok sound but the background hum as mentioned before is annoying. sounds better than tanglewood fst 32 but it costs £70 more. gives good distorted crunch tones and overdrive is ok but not brilliant

  Durability

its been pretty good for tuning. but if you use the tremlo alot it needs lots of tuning. its been droped a couple of times and been fine apart from the odd paint chip but other than that its pretty tough few dints in the neck from when it was propped against a book case. the bridge used to come up when new strings were put on but a little alteration on the saddles sorted that out.

  Overall

good guitar for the money tremlo bridge can be a pain in the arse but im intending to get a non-tremlo one good for tinkering and a great guitar for beginners as its not gonna break the bank and when you get better it still sounds good enough to stop you getting angry with it

from Gig Gear Hertford,Herts,UK for ?129.99 (fat strat)on 28/5/05

  Features

it looks really cool, really nice blue finish. 2 tone controls do nothing .... wtf ?, the nullhumbuckernull in it really makes a difference and makes it not sound so nulltwangynull. nice headstock, strings bit crappy, 5 way pick up sytem makes no difference apart from the two very end ones.

  Playability

i was gonna get either this or the epiphone les paul 100, the sound on this sounds so much better, les paul one is way too deep and bluesy. it is pretty solid, but sometimes sounds nulltinnynull

  Quality

lots of distortion sometimes, when you dont touch the strins itnulls still humming slightly but that might just be because of the amp.

  Durability

ive hit it a lot of times on my desk, chair, bed etc and has no visible damge apart from 1 tiny dent where i hit the corner of my desk with it whilst getting annoyed with the lead lol. never goes out of tune really ( i use a electronic tuner)

  Overall

for what i paid i think it is really good, not quite a gibson but its a quality beginners guitar for people like me

Review by a visitor on 25.5.2005

i got it for chrestmas. i think about maybe $300 dollers.

  Features

wow, this one is a hot one. whenever im playing and jamming i feel just like jimme hendrix. the amp sometimes wont make a sound, no matter how hard i smash the strings, so all i have to do it pick it up and drop it about 2 or 1 feet and it usually fixes it self. i think its a really nice guitar, it doesnt sound very sweet like linard skinard but its a really fat blue colour.

  Playability

hmm, my experince with a guitar is small, but i think its from good to great. i think that the SQUIER is a good buy since it has everything and it usually works pretty good

  Quality

the sounds are ok, but i wish that i could sound like the greatest band ever linard skinard. i dont no if it preforms better then others, but it does generate noise, why else would a guitarist buy and electric guitar?!!

  Durability

i just dont like when i have to dropping my ampliflyer. i think that the guitar will last me even when im a famous player. but if IM a famous guitarist then i will get a real guitar. i seen in the store where there was a guitar for $600, and that was just for a guitar!! they didnt even have the strings to connect the ampliflyer and guitar! i think that if i pay that much for a guitar i should get one of them big ampliflyers that has the big 4 speackers. wow, some of them people at the store must have a lot of big money to buy $600 guitar. why spend that much when the fenders squier was maybe $300, and its with everything you need to rock!

  Overall

everyone should have a squier for there very own. but i think that if i had a ampliflyer with 4 speackers then i could make my verry own concert my everyone and my friends could enjoy. GET YOUR SQUIER TODAY

Got it from Argos in about 1997. Cannullt remember the price although it was over ?130.

  Features

The neck is great. Nice and thin (if you like them that way). The two tone controls are nearly useless. They are like on-off switches. Itnulls possible they are the wrong value but I havennullt really gone into them as I can adjust the tone on my amp. The trem arm got put away after one session. The original strings need changing straight away. However, it did play straight out of the box and was actually in tune (until I used the trem arm)! Finish was better than I expected. Was? See below. The jack socket has come loose regularly. The internal wiring seems a little flimsy. Could use a bit more screening.

  Playability

I took my Squier to my friends BBQ a couple of years ago. We would jam into the early hours after most of the other guests left. It stood up well to competition from a "real" strat and several other brands and quality. In fact, one player went back to my Squier after playing the "real" strat. So did I. It feels nice and is nicely balanced.

  Quality

The tone controls are useless. It sounds ALMOST like the real thing. As reported by earlier reviewers, when you select any single pick-up, you get a hum. Maybe this could be helped if the internal wiring was screened. I suppose this would add to the cost.Change the strings. I had to tighten the truss rod as it was rattling around inside the neck. At least they give you the keys to do it. There is a buzz around the first or second fret, but, as I am no pro and it doesnnullt happen all the time, I can live with it.

  Durability

Apart from the loose jack socket there have been no issues regarding durbility. I have never gigged with it, however. Nor have I really given it any hard sessions, so YMMV. I chipped a chunk off the corner when I threw the thing across the floor in a fit of pique and thatnulls the only damage that occurred. Stayed in tune and there was no other damage.

  Overall

Overall, I like this guitar. Itnulls perfect for a first guitar. It looks good, and sounds good (put some Ernie Balls on it). The action is pretty good and the neck is great. I decided on this one because I saw a guitarist in a pub playing a Squier Telecaster. Sounded great. I asked him if I could have a look. I prefer the strat so I got one. I am moving to bass so I may not look at another guitar.

I bought it in 2003, Germany, for something like 170 euros. The guitar is made-in-China and is a 20-th Anniversary model.

  Features

First of all, the guitar has a great neck. And I mean it - the neck is great! You get 22 jumbo (or perhaps medium?) frets, acceptable mechanics, a whammy bar which is a nightmare for your tuning, six strings (first thing you do - replace nullem!) and three SC pick-ups. If you have high expectations - replace the pickups as well, but I still live and fight with the factory ones. The 5-way switch gives you a certain variety of sounds. You can entertain yourself with two tone controls and a volume control. The latter one really works :))

  Playability

It has a great neck, it has a reasonable body and it it rather light, this makes it very easy and pleasant to play. From strumming to fingerpicking to shred, from classics to jazz to metal - you can learn to play anything on it. Except - how to get a huge sound out of it, but this is due to shitty pickups and electric components in general... It is quite a fun to play this one, however, this is why I rate the playability so high.

  Quality

I have tried many guitars of similar price, and none of them feels better to play. I think this is due to the neck which I love. However, I have not succeeded in getting a great amplified sound out of it - the stuff sounds pretty cheap, or gets lost among the effects...

  Durability

It is unbreakable. Not only can you drop it, you may even kick it, drop it from 2 meters height, hit with it a nail in a concrete wall, dance on it, open a bottle of beer with it... Afterwards the guitar may have some dents, but it will still be playable. The tuning is quite stable unless you use whammy bar. I would not use it for a live gig - not with these pickups, at least, because it is mainly a beginner guitar.

  Overall

It is a very good first electric guitar, very much fun to play. It has a great neck but shitty electric components. It provides a good value for the price, since you do not expect to get a professional instrument at this price, do you? Right now I am looking for my next guitar, which wonnullt be a Stratocaster anymore. My dream gtr is Music Man John Petrucci signature, with piezo and all the stuff:))

I bought my Squier Affinity Strat from Gig Sounds Streatham London. A beautiful Cream coloured number! I paid the price of ?130. This was back in 1996, so there is a chance things couldnullve changed with regards to quality. I havennullt heard of any such changes.

  Features

It features 3 single coil pick-ups in stratocaster formation (Korean Stock), a 5 way select where the last mode was tempermental, 21 frets, its body is alarming light! *note that* so that it does not nullcarrynull notes for a long duration. Action on the neck is tough compared to that of a Mexican or a US Stratocaster.

  Playability

The standard configuration on the action is pretty...bad to say the least, you would get a better job on a real Fender Strat, the frets are jumbo so they are easy to use for beginners and give clear quality barre-chords. Higher notes are subject to fret buzz.

  Quality

The body of the guitar is solid and is made from nullwoodnull...the producers are obviously too ashamed to tell the public about their plywood/hardboard/MDF bodies. The result of course, is that the sound does not resonate throughout the body, and the notes are short.

The pick-ups are Korean Stock and have a sound totally different to that of a Fender Stratocaster. The sound is generally more muffled, dampened, quieter, and generally not distinct.

Alot of hum on clean mode where electronic buzz is noticable.

Feeback mode is basic...makes you uncertain as to whether you would want to run effects through the guitar.

  Durability

It goes out of tune quite quickly, and in hot/humid conditions it would require a tune up after each item; and believe me when I say that you WILL notice the tuning slipping.

The paint chips easily...the sligthest nudge or bang and the results are enormous. If you do plan on purchasing it wiegh up the odds. It would probably cost you more to protect the Guitar using a soft case/travel case than the Guitar itself an indication of quality.

  Overall

I choose the Squier, at the time, because it was all I could afford. I use this guitar purely for quiet/personal practice, definately not Gig material. Obviously I changed it as soon as I could...I prefer the sound of the Mexican Stratocaster or the American Stratocaster (which I now have one each of)...the Mexican Stratocaster sounds the same as the US strat once you change the stock pick-ups.

The Squier Strat is perfect for someone just setting off on electric Guitar, but even other budget firms like Yamaha, and Encore out perform the Squier in terms of being a beginners Guitar. If you want your first electric guitar to be a nullFendernull then the Squier is for you.

This Guitar reminds me of a Porsche 914. A bad thing was at the time Porsche famed for its 911.

Save an extra 100-200$ and you are set to get a Mexican Stratocaster. 100$ more and you will have a US Strat!

Bought November 20th at Guirat center in Concord, CA for $150 on 50% off weekend sale.

  Features

Tone is okay, it really crackles on the amp. (Amp came with the guitar, boxed set)

  Playability

Well, its great for beginners but it has a lot of static.

  Quality

With tune on full and tune completely off therenulls almost no difference.

  Durability

Very durable (dropped it 3 times), but goes out of tune pretty fast after about 1-3 hours of playing.

  Overall

Its what I expected, a beginnernulls guitar and just what I needed.

I bought a 2004 Squier Strat used for 50 bucks with amp bag and strap
U should be getting a good deal for a similar price

  Features

It doesnnullt have much, it is quite basic (Inullve taken it apart for fun) The Guitar doesnt have great tone, even with good strings, but it is good for starters

  Playability

Easy to play, but lacks tone (maybe shitty amp)

  Quality

No feed back, but has so/so sound quality. Tone knobs dont work well. Excessive crackling on amp

  Durability

More durable than a club, and even if it did braek, any dumbass with a soldering iron could fix its circuits

  Overall

At the 279 dollar pack price it is a good deal for a begginr. And it is even cheaper than shit when used. Go for it

i dont have one myself, but i always play the one at school.

  Features

it has a lot of features, some that can be good, and some that can be bad.

  Playability

it plays very good, and you can tell that it is a good guitar.

  Quality

the quality is its weakpoint. it is not as good as a straight on fender and you keep on having to set the tone all the time so that it sounds good. but it has a nice smooth sound to it.

  Durability

it is quite durable, but i would not suggest it for live gigs.

  Overall

the squier by fender i recommend for beginners. its a good guitar for its price, but it has a lot of weak points.

guitar center in Ohio, it was the starter pack, $300

  Features

its very nice to play it feels good in your hands. i donnullt like the stock pick ups though. the dont have a great tone.

  Playability

for a starter this is probalby one of the best ones out there. personaly i think the epiphone specail 2 has a better sound but i normaly got for Gibsons anyways.

  Quality

i dont like how it sounds, not enought power in the pick ups sounds kinda twangy but thats how most fender single coiles sound.

  Durability

its alright in durability it says in tune pretty well, the wammy bar really messes it up though. the input jack comes losses a lot.

  Overall

if you just starting to play this is probably the best thing you can start with and its good for the money

Bought from Guitar Center in 2001 for $140

  Features

Basic electric guitar. Thinner body then regular Strat, but it is solid Alder, not plywood as some cheap brands.

  Playability

Very easy to play, with a good setup it gets all of the sounds a standard strat is known for.

  Quality

Sounds good, some noise when used with only one single coil. 3 spring (can add 2 more though) tremelo throws the thing way out of tune, throw away the whammy if you know what is good for you!

  Durability

Pretty durable, holds tune great. Sadly, the finish quality is not the greatest, I can see the grain of the wood when held to light. Frets are becomming worn after 3 years, but it isnt affecting playability yet.

  Overall

Cheap, durable beginners guitar. It does its job as good as you can expect in a sub $200 guitar.

Bought at Gulia music in canton ohio. 279.99 with a Fender Frontman 15-G

  Features

Good tone good feel very versatile if you know how to work it.

  Playability

You cant really compare this to models that cost wice as much, but in its price range this is definitely the best.

  Quality

It sounds really good and it is very playable. Its comfortable and has good tone.

  Durability

Inullve dropped it quite a few times and even threw it against the wall trying to spin it around my head and its held up great. It holds tune just fine i left it alone for a week and was still in tune.

  Overall

I love this thing. Its a squier, but i think it would be able to hold up to a mexican fender any day.

I bought it from a music store in Finland.I bought it 3 years ago, I paid 330?.

  Features

My squier is black and white and the only bad thing about it is that when you press harder from frets 1-5 the voice changes.

  Playability

It fits perfectly to me because i play rocknullnnullroll, blues and heavy. At the beginning when you pressed harder from frets 1-5 the voice changed. But it doesnnullt do that anymore because I tightened the neck from the screw that is at the beginning of the neck.

  Quality

It has very good sound. It generates noise if you play only with one mic, but when you play with two mics it doesnullt generate any noise. And it only generates noise if you have some elecricial machine (for example computer) close to the guitar.

  Durability

It is very reliable, it doesnnullt need to be adjusted so often, maybe 1 time in 2 weeks.

  Overall

It is a good guitar, and I am buing a new one but it isnnullt because of that the old guitar sucks. It is just because I want something that is unique

Received as a gift, I think it was bought at Guitar Works.

  Features

Excellent playability
Good controls
Good stability
Good tone

  Playability

Itnulls a basic guitar but definately a great first electric. Harmonics, arpeggios, and fingerpicking all sound good. It lives up to what I need for a back up guitar.

  Quality

It doesnnullt really compare to higher end guitars, but teh effects and sound quality are all fantastic for the price. Generates some good noise and has pretty good playability.

  Durability

Inullve bumped it a few timesw and itnulls intact. It may not be the best for live gigs, but Inullve only done a few with it so Inullm not really sure. It stays in tune decently, but the tremelo bar throws it way out of tune.

  Overall

For a first electric or for a teen or child, itnulls absolutely fantastic. If younullre doing alot of gigs and need a backup and practice guitar, this is also fantastic. If younullre going to be or are a serious player doing lots of live performances, younullll want to go to a higher end Fender, a Mexican maybe. The Squier Strat is great for value.

i bought it in a strat pack which included the metallic red affinity strat.

  Features

i loved the colour and it really stood out. it was very easy to play , especially if u r jst starting out.

  Playability

i havnt had much experience with electric guitars, i had been playing acoustic for a long time before i actualy got my hands on an electric so i dont have much to compare with, but my friend has a Fender null60s stratocaster and to be honest, apart from the price, i couldnt really tell the difference , the only difference to me was the price!

  Quality

i find that wen i have the amp up high in volume it tends to distort real bad, but i jst turn it down! like i said before if u wanna play in live shows then get a good amplifier which cn take it

  Durability

i havnt had any trouble with my guitar, hasnt neded any adjusting and i found it is steady for live gigs, i would suggest a good amp aswell to make the sound of the guitar even better than it is.

  Overall

it definatly lived up to my expectations and i dnt regret it. it did the job for me which was home use and basically for fun. it to me is a really good guitar

I bought The Squier Affinity Stratocaster at Guitar Center about a week ago. It brought be back for 150$.

  Features

This guitar had a nice finish with a solid alder body and 21 fret maple neck. It has 3 pick-ups and a tremelo with a 5 way switch. Fair features for the price of the guitar.

  Playability

Very easy playibillity for beginners teen and up.

I prefer the sound of three pick-ups so in my oppinion it sounds great. Again for something more to mess with at home. So as far as opinions stretch Inullll let it down a bit.

  Durability

Itnulls fairly reliable with fairly easy tuning. More for playin in a garage.

  Overall

I think it is alright for people who are good players better for casual players and excelent for begginers. So 3 4 5...Inullll give it a 4.

bought it at a local Long & McQuade on sale for $239 reg. $330. super deal.

  Features

floating bridge, chrome tuners, sweet finish on the neck and a sunburst finish on the body. nice looking guitar. it was different than all the others they just brought a couple in.

  Playability

wicked playability, keeping in mind that its a squier, lovely playability.

  Quality

just okay quality. this would be itnulls weakpoint. Too much feedback.

  Durability

It kept going sharp on me for the first couple days but after that it was fine. Its a solid guitar for $239.

  Overall

In my opinion, get this guitar as a first one, its an unbelieveable first guitar, but if your doinnull gigs, get something a little better.

I bought this guitar in a pack around 299. Ignore the previous review i did.

  Features

it is a standard, 3 pickup guitar with a tremolo. it has 2 tone knobs and 1 master volume knob. It also has 5-way switching for the pickups.

  Playability

This guitar was well worth the money. It plays great and its tone isnnullt that bad either.

  Quality

Since this is a Fender made instrument, you know it has great quality. It has a smooth finish and a great shine. The pick ups are not bad, but the input plug needs work

  Durability

This guitar is very durable, except for the input plug. Mine has come loose numerous times and i have had to tighten it also. It doesnnullt give a good connection, so when you are playing, the sound suddenly cuts off. Everything else is great.

  Overall

I would recommend this guitar to any new beginner or to use as a backup guitar. It is great for its price and well worth it

i recieved this guitar as a gift for my birthday a while back...not sure how much it was, but i think the strat package which includes a practice amp costs around $200

  Features

the guitar is a great guitar for beginning guitarists

  Playability

itnulls not the greatest guitar, but for what i need it for, it does perfectly

  Quality

it sounds good

  Durability

itnulls really reliable for what i need it for, which is just practicing. i think itnulls a great guitar for beginners, but not gig worthy

  Overall

itnulls not the best guitar in the world, but if someone wants a guitar when they arennullt sure theynullre going to stick with it, inulld buy this to figure it out

i bought it at a local music shop in wisconsin for around $240. great deal since it was the starter kit or whatever (soft case, tuner, strings, picks, fender 15g frontman amp (i believe.

  Features

strong points: very reliable. mine looks nice, with a rosewood fretboard i believe. dark blue color, white pickgaurd. 2 tone controls, 1 master volume. 5 pickup settings.

weak points: the knobs have a kind of cheap feel to them. the felt wobbly and obviously werent put on evenly.

note: the problem with the knobs were solved when i picked up some telecaster-style knobs. also, i put a pearly white pickgaurd on it.

  Playability

for my purposes, it has everything that i need. obviously inulld rather have a fender stratocaster, but for the price, inullm not complaining that i got a squier.

  Quality

nothing too special. when played through the amp it came with at high volume, sound quality drops pretty dramatically.

also, with volume up high, the buzzing is almost to the point of not being acceptable. to fix it, you have to mess around with tone and pickup selection. definetly what i would consider the weak point of the guitar.

keep in mind this is a beginner, cheap guitar. when thinking about that, this is an absolute bargain. if you see one in a shop and you want to start electric, i would suggest you get it.

  Durability

inulld say its pretty reliable. frequent tunings might be necessary, if your doing solos or anything. when i used to just play chords, i rarely need to adjust tuning.

i donnullt play live gigs yet, so i cannullt really say much about that.

  Overall

a great guitar for the price. as my skills are progressing, inullm growing out of this guitar quickly. it easily lived up to my expectations.

I bought mine from a small shop in Glasgow called sound control for 199 good english pounds, one of the cheapest guitars ivnulle ever purchased and is definetly one of the best bargains ive ever had.

  Features

I chose the maple wood neck, which personally, i think is much better to play on for both comfort and playability. The guitar has a really low action so is great for lead solo stuff, particularly bluesy licks. All five tones from the three single pick-ups give excellent and diverse sounds. The whammy does does exactly what its supposed to, being made by the fender company wouldnt expect anything less, and is definetly, no matter what the price suggests better than a floyd rose tremolo especially for less than professional players. Floyd roses are temperemental, undependable, over-rated and ridiculously expensive.

  Playability

As its a squier and not full-on fender, the tone is slightly sacrificed. Although this only really comes into effect when playing straight through an amp. Buying decent pedals and setting up a good system eliminates this problem which makes me wonder why squiers are so affordable in contrast to their originals.

  Quality

Depending on pedal setup feedback can sometimes be heard, however this really isnt a major problem as it only occurs in like 10% of the tones possible with decent pedals.

  Durability

Stays in tune surprisingly often after using the whammy bar and, in my model at least, is free of any dead frets. In other guitars ive had a certain fret, over time, will fail to produce a good sound, or buzz a lot. Ive had this guitar for a while and so far its sounding as good as day one, with the help of some string changes along the way obviously.

  Overall

My last guitar cost me £380. An ibanez,s series, deep violet flat, twin humbucker, floyd rose system picture of guitar sexiness. As it turned out it was the biggest waste of money since Blair and Bush forked out on some iraqi intelligence. Believe me, dont be ashamed to spend less in a guitar shop, if you feel your getting what you want from the instrument. The stratocaster is time-less, fashionable (especially in sunburst) and reliable. If it was good enough for Jimi its good enough for me. Unless you can afford a Gibson Les Paul classic, this guitar is definetly woth considering, and ive not a bad word to say about it.

I bought it at a fender/squier specialist shop, in 2001 for around 600 Australian dollars. At the time it was a good deal. You can get it for a lot cheaper now.

  Features

I really like the body and the starburst finish was cool. It has three pickups, I like the neck and the mid, but the bridge pickup didnnullt sound right. I use the whammy a lot, and I donnullt have to tune it a lot as much other guitars. (I would get a floyd rose but cannullt afford it). But the whammy bar really serves itnulls purpose in this guitar.

  Playability

Im really pleased with the way it plays, the sound is really fit for rock and metal type people. Tapping is good, but could be better. Harmonics, excellent.

  Quality

The amp can produce a lot feedback if put up too loud.

  Durability

Itnulls lasted for more than two years so far and nothing has gone wrong with it except for the nut witch was a little discoloured. The rosewood fretboard also gets a bit faded after a while, but it doesnnullt make much of a difference.

  Overall

I like it, and donnullt care what others think bout it. All I know is that if itnulls by Fender, it will be good quality.

I bought this guitar in a pack a Guitar Center, a local shop. It was around $279. It came with an Affinity Strat, 15w amp, tuner, strings, picks, and a gig back. There were also a set of picks that came with it.

  Features

It looks basically like a Fender strat, except it says Squier. It has three pickups. A neck, middle, and bridge. It also has a whammy bar. It comes with 21 frets on a rosewood fretboard. The guitar plays really well. But, if you use the whammy bar too much, you may have to re-tune the strings. The amp is a Fender Frontman 15G. It has 2 different channels. You can adjust the treble, middle, and bass, and also gain.

  Playability

The guitar plays extremely well. I havennullt found anything wrong with it yet. It plays like a Fender-quality instrument. The amp isnnullt strong enough for a huge gig though.

  Quality

The guitar sounds like a Fender. It has more of a grungy, distortion-type sound than other guitars. For me, that is what I wanted. The amp generates noise when turned up all the way.

  Durability

The Affinity Strat is very reliable. It needs adjusting only if you use the whammy bar a lot. I wouldnnullt use the amp for live gigs. It tends to make noise when turned all the way up. It gets annoying. I would use it for practice, or backstage.

  Overall

I would definetly get this guitar if i was a beginner. It is made from Fender, so you know it is good quality. It is perfect for at home practice, or with a band.
