Review by Sage on 17.2.2004

Okay...I got this as a Christmas present...my parents got it off zzounds.com for around $180-$195 (It came with a little practice amp...). 22-fret neck. 3-3 tuning peg split. Fixed bridge. Strings DO NOT go through the body! The bridge "doubles" as where the strings are inserted. Dual humbucking pickups. Individual Tone/Volume Controls for each. Three position switch. Input jcak is next to control knobs. Amp comes with switchable overdrive. tone, volume, treble, bass knobs. headphone jack. Also came with an instrucional DVD (also had acoustic guitar and electric bass lessons on it in addition to electric guitar), angle-straight 10null cord, REALLY cheapy gig bag (using a bunch of combined wal-mart bags would be better), extra set of strings, and a tuner (Inullll review that separately). Otherwise, guitar itself with gear is definitely worth the 200 bucks.

  Features

Comes in red or black. (pick-guard is black no matter what)
Strong- Good bass sound. great tone. really easy to pick up and play.
Weak- Treble is so-so. Solos would sound better on a strat (then again, everything sounds better on a strat...), and the pickup selector switch (right in the way of a down stroke) can get knocked in to another postion if younullre not careful.
Characteristics- rich full sound when full chords are played. Seventh and ninth chords sound even better. would make a great garage band rhythm guitar.
Controls- Like I said before, there are individual tone and volume knobs for the two pickups. to get the best sound, kepp the tone at ten (for both) and adjust the volumes according to your situation.
It is lacking a good place ment for the pickup selector switch, but other than that, this just a standard guitar.

  Playability

This guitar is one of the easiest to play I have ever...uhh...played. There is this feeling of comfort that allows the player to just get into the groove and stay there the whole time theynullre playing. As a competitive guitar, it would probably get an honorable mention, because it sounds good (minus the treble) and doesnnullt take a lot of warming up to get into.

  Quality

Sound quality is wonderful. My only complaint is the Treble. Donnullt get me wrong, I can play solos on it and it sounds great, but if you consistently play lead or high rhythm parts, this guitar is, or should be, an alternate choice. Alos, there is an occasional hum when Inullm not playing anything, but that may be the practice amp. It does sound really good when you "put it in overdrive". If you add a reverb to that, well, thatnulls just cool.

  Durability

Reliable. Not very reliable. Just realiable. The tuning sometimes can go flat a little easier than my acoustic, but that is something I have to deal with. Itnulls really asy to lightly touch the tuning pegs and move the string up or down about a quarter-step. Theynullre that touchy. I havennullt had a live gig yet, but I would think that for rhythm guitar (with the occasional solo), this would do fine.

  Overall

My overall opinion of this guitar is good. The sound quality is good, itnulls VERY easy to just pick up and play, AND, it wonnullt break the bank. So, yes, it lives up to my expectations, and yes, I am looking for a better one, but that wonnullt be for many years.
