Review Roland Micro Cube

Review by a visitor on 16.12.2005

I bought my cube at Leitz Music in Panama City and boy I was surprised! Inullm used to running my guitar into an effects board and then into my PA. Itnulls a strat and sounded ok, BUT, when I plugged in the Cube and lined it into my PA I was amazed! The sound much surpassed my previous set-up, PLUS, I could use different amp sounds. This blew me away, as I can also carry it home from the gig and practise, it is SO tiny. The best of 2 worlds. Go Roland GO!

Inullm amazed at how long I went without any amp (just directly into a P.A) This little Cube brought out the best in my strat....

I bought this amp at Sam Ash for $124.50 a week ago.

  Features

This little amp is friggin great! Itnulls only 2 watts, but those 2 watts go a long way. It has everything but the kitchen sink on it. Tremelo, chorus, flanger, phaser, delay, and reverb. But those are only the basics. It also has other settings like: Acoustic, Black panel, JC clean, Brit combo, Classic stack, R-Fier, and a Mic setting. The normal gain, tone, and volmue controlls too. (All of this in a 9 x 6 x 8 in. box!) The MicroCube also comes with a unique feature that inullve never seen on an amp before: A touch sensitive tuning fork in the key of A, A flat, and A double flat. It runs on six AAnulls that it will chew through in about 20 minutes. But thatnulls why it comes with an AC adaptor. The only thing i found frustrating about this amp was that i couldnnullt find the power button the first time i played it.

  Playability

The MicroCube far surpassed my first impression of this amp. I expected a little gain on the amp, but not real features! Compared to a Pignose....therenulls no contest. The MicroCube has far better sound quality and effects.

  Quality

I cannullt complain about this amp. It does everything i dreamed a small amp would one day do. There is no unwanted noise unless you get very close to the amp. Then of course, you get a loud kick of feedback.

  Durability

Inullve already taken this tiny amp everywhere i go just to show it off. This thing can hold up to being dropped off the back of a car (maybe that was just dumb luck). But i know this can hold up to being lugged to peoplenulls houses for practices and what-not. It even has a strap for tha soul occasion. I wouldnnullt use this for live gigs unless you mic it. This is more of a "tow around" amp.

My opinion stands. The MicroCube is the best small amp someone could buy. It was worth every single penny i spent on it. I chose this amp because Ric, a sales man at Sam Ash and a co-worker of mine tried it out over a weekend at the shore. He came back with a huge grin on his face and said, "You gotta buy this!" He further explained it and itwas a done deal. I wouldnnullt get a better small wattage amp if someone paid me.

I bought it in June 2005 at Guitar Center for 125.00.

  Features

I am very happy with the variety of tones that are available with this amp. There are settings for acoustic guitar and electric guitar. I played an null73 Ovation roundback and an Ibanez Classical nylon string elec/acou guitar through the Micro Cube and both guitars sounded great. The COSM settings range from clean amp models to very cruchy. That alone was super, but the icing on the cake was the DSP effects chorus, flanger, reverb, delay ectc. . . No need for pedals when you are traveling light. The only weak point I found in the amp results from a charactoristic of my playing style. I play finger style jazz guitar. Usually this type of player likes to a bassier tone from his amp. (I play the bass notes with the thumb and the chord notes with the fingers) The COSM models that handle this need the best are the Roland JC Clean, the Fender Blackface, and the VOX AC30. The problem is when I play with this bassier tone and I raise the volume to a certain point, the bass notes drown out the chord notes. The VOX AC30 model handles this situation the best.

  Playability

I can get several tones that I prefer very easily with it. I have another practice amp which is an old Fender Sidekick (which I love). But, the Roland Micro Cube exceeds it in features, portability, and tonal spectrum. The Sidekick exceeds in loudness in this comparison.

  Quality

The Roland Micro Cube is very quiet (no hiss or hum). I have played other battery powered amps where hum is very noticeable. Like the P--nose. The Micro Cube is quite an upgrade from the H----tone.

  Durability

The amp seems to be quite reliable. I donnullt need to keep adjusting settings. I especially like the way that several effects are available within two control knobs. That was well thought out. The amp is not intended for true gig playing, but for pratice.

  Overall

I was looking for a portable practice amp with good tone. The Roland Micro Cube is bigger, heavier, more expensive, and a little less powerful than the P--nose.
It proved to be the better purchase because of the COSM modeling, the DSP effects, and its circuitry that is less prone to noise and hum.

I bought it in late June 2004 for $125 at Guitar Center

  Features

It is a small practice amp. Effrects include chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, delay and reverb. it has 1 volume, 1 ton, and 1 gain control. You can can choose from a acoustic amp that makes your guitar sound acoustic, clean, Black Panel which has a nice deep sound, Brit Combo which is a copy of the Vox amp used by bands of the 60s, a copy of a Marshall Stack, and a R-Flier. There is also a tuning fork.

  Playability

Yes, there are many nice combos you can get with all the features.

  Quality

Great except when it gets louder the gain comes up little but not that much.

  Durability

Havent had it long but so far its been great.
