Review Peavey Transformer 212

Review by a visitor on 14.6.2006

Jims Music Marquett ,Mi $599.00 before tax

Was looking at buying a Randall or Line 6 online but decided to give my local guitar shop a try.
Not really sure what drew me to it. It just looked different than some of the other peaveys. I plugged in and was blown away with the sound and features. The stock presets were ok but enough to make me buy it.

  Features

Strong points include, cabinet swapping, power, stereo, effects, footpedal is amazing with tuner display. Good looking amp with lots of lights for playing at night. I sort of agree with the people that said the delay not being able to be fully adjusted is sort of a disapointment. I however do not agree with people saying that there is unwanted noise generated from this amp. First of all it has a noise gate. I never have to use mine but if your guitar is making noise, try putting some adhesive copper tape in your electronics cavity of your guitar. It makes a world of difference!!! The cabinet swapping is pretty amazing and you can come up with so many tones including bone crushing distortion and very nice clean channels. This amp is Loooouuud. The speakers are very full of bass but sound great. Being able to program your amp from a laptop is pretty cool. They are discontinued now so if you get a chance to pick one up on ebay or can get one of the last remaining new models at a music store, do it!!!

Results are able to be attained with this model. I love it and have tried other amps. In fact it blows other peaveys out of the water as well, in my opinion.

  Quality

No noise for me, effects are about a 7 out of 10 but I do like the sound of the delay a lot.

Very Reliable

Great amp too bad it was discontinued. People just didnnullt know it was out there. I had never heard of it at the time but I am glad I found it. I am content with this amp and have no plans to upgrade

Bought in Kalamazoo Michigan. List price.

This amp is programmable right? The only thing...I mean ONLY is that you cannot program specific delays per channel. The delay effect is in glorious mono. I think therenulls a ping pong but you cannot control the left or the right delays. This is also true with many of the all-in-one type of amps. Please God make me a 212 that you can truely program.

Currently to solve the problem in a cheap manner is to put an old RP-1 (only because it come with a controller and I already own it. Using the FX loop, one can assign via left and right delays and moreso with a 4tap delay. There is added noise !! Yikes! If you cannullt tolerate the noise, you can you a more expensive processor but younullll have to get a foot controller for it. Whatever...My point is one should not have to go this length for a particular effect. It should already be present considering this thing can be programmed via computer software. I choose average rating due to the lack of delay control.

  Playability

Wish there was a global EQ not just a cabinet selection. There should be both.

  Quality

By itself and if you just want an amp for an amp sake, it will spoil you. But once again. The lack of delay programability presents a problem regarding stereo spaciousness and control. Currently it has a delay developed from monoland. Inullm not talking about just panning delay to one side - you cannullt even do that if you wanted to on this anyway. Inullm talking about control of a left time, volume, repeat and dry mix, along with a right time, volume and repeat with dry mix. If it had this. I would travel the world and sell them for the company for free.

  Durability

If programmed right, no frequent adjusting nesc.

I didnnullt choose it. This is a friend of mines. There is no better one. You have to build a better one yourself. As long as you have to upgrade a computer- until the day CGI images look real with out effort -until you donnullt have to upgrade..there will never be a better model unless someone out there is really listening to what I just typed. Yo SANTA! Can you make me a better 212?
