The album Morningrise from the prog. death metal band Opeth is by far one of their most excellent pieces of work. It is simply a piece of musical genius through the beautiful lyrics of Mikael Akerdfelt and the insanely long but not boring songs. The songs on this album by far exceed that of most other bands because all of them are over the 10-minute mark. Their magnum opus, Blackrose Immortal is their longest song topping the scales at just over 20 minutes. But, do not be fooled by the length. Their songs never lose heart or a step. Whether it is through the bashing growl of Mikaels vocals or the insane leads of Peter Lindgren with the guitar this album truly shines. Let’s not forget about the smooth, sly vocals of Mikael when he is singing clean. They are some of the most beautiful I have heard yet. Alongside some pretty picking through the acoustic it makes for an amazing sound. Also we can't forget the amazing bass lines in this album. The song Nectar is what I mean by that. It has some of the greatest bass riffs I have ever heard other than Geddy Lee. Lastly, the punishing beat from the drums all adds together to make a truly mysterious journey. I would rate this album a 10 out of 10. Cheers!
