i bought this head from canberra (australia) which took a long time to get and after a while of considering other amps i ended up getting this one. it has better flexibility than allot of other marshalls and at the price it was preety good, i paid $2000 for the head and $600 for the extra 2x12 cab so overall i would say that i got a good deal for it.

strong points... well the three channels and each of them havign their own tone settings make for the first point. Each channel having its on lows, mids and highs. The lead, crunch and clean channel have tone shift buttons which allows the mids to be hieghtened more for the metal sounds and it makes guitar techniques such as harmonics and so on much more easier to pull off. The gain on this amp is very good quality as of course marshall is known for that. the clean isnnullt the best but there are no very large downsides on the clean channel. Both clean and the lead/crunch channels have deep switches which allow for heavier lows for more brutal playing. Persence nob works well, which a very large difference from 0 - 10 on the nob. VPR switch allows you the option to turn your amp into a 25 watt amp, great for the bedroom and keeping the power low, also makes it easier to control the volume and gain controls when playing lower volumes.
Also comes with a footswitch, each channel has its own switch, with an additional FX which can be looped and reverb switch. Not bad at all.
With the more nobs and switches to define your tone it makes it allot more easier to use and flexible than the normal heads out there. |

Its very easy to use. with easy channel switching thanks to the footswitch and fx and reverb also on the footswitch you dont need to be going back and forth to the amp pr have someone fiddling with your nobs while you play. Making it better is each has its own tone settings so you can easily get the sound you want but the touch of a button.
i run LTD MH400 MT my and it eliminates preety much all background noise on the lead and crunch except when you stand right in front of it of course. the clean channel has no problems on that department, and with a volume pedal boss delay dd6 pedal nd boss metal zone pedal also running through it sounds awesome. |

ITS A MARSHALL, gain is number 1.... no extra noise at all when playing, sound quality is perfect on the lead channel, crunch is also good and the clean is exceptional. BUT if all you want is distortion than go for the marshalls or like the other review the mesa boogie amplifiers but if you want to pay 3000 or more for a amp go for it...... |

its very reliable if you look after it. it has never failed me in any gigs. its loud enough that most times it doesnt need to be micnulld up, i cant really say how durable it is when transporting it because i use a hard case which protects it from the bumps and bruises of the roads.
It does require some start up time, just a couple of minutes and its ready to go, you do get a little static when you turn it on straight from standby mode but a few seconds it dies down and its back to normal, itnulls nothing big. i have had to replace the fuses because ive left it in standby mode for a very long time and it has died on me, but lucky it wasnt a valve or something because valves dont come cheap.
it isnt the best in the this catagory but it will do good, it just needs some tender care and it will reward you.
i just wouldnnullt go jumping off it and slaming your guitars into it, unless you have the money to replace it. |

Clean/Crunch/Lead. eq for each channel, Crunch/Lead share presence, reverb, fx level rotary controls and a deep pushswitch, there are also presence, reverb, fx level rotary controls and a deep pushswitch for the clean channel. Each channel has its own master vol and gain, the Crunch channel has a tone shift pushswitch on the front of the head wich kinda scoops the mid for that metal sound. The Lead channel is exactly the same as the Crunch channel only with more gain and compression, it also has the tone shift push switch. The clean channel has a Mid boost pushswitch wich does exactly what it says. There is also a virtual power reduction pushswitch wich makes the amp emulate a 25watt amp wich is usefull for recording and saving power, and your neighbours ears. The head also comes with a footpedel wich alows one to switch from channel to channel with one footswitch per channel plus reverb and fx |

If its raw power you want this will provide plenty, inedpendent settings for each channel alow many different sounds, when cranked up the valves really kick butt. the clean channel is able to sound bluesy jazzy country with ease, the two OD channels provide that classic marshall sound well known in the world of ROCK. you can also dial up some heavy gain and thrash like distortion. The deep switch also provides extra heavy edge. i tryed out different marshall amps, combonulls and old stacks wich were nice but either they were not valve amps or they were limited in sound. i tryed amps of different makes but they could not offer the range of sounds. There is a combo version of this model wich is identical to this one only its a combo and half the size, therefore dosent score as highly in the ROCK department. The only other option is the dual rectifier half stack by mesa boogie they are great amps...Seen how much they cost.. ouch... |

Havent giged with it yet played it at practice few times done some recording sounds better when cranked up, well built {heavy} good range of sounds three channels 2 play with each with own master vol wich is usefull when you need that extra boost for solonulls. the added tone shift and deep pushswitches enable you to dail up almost any sonud, unfortunately the footpedel wich came with the head broke a few days after i bought it wich was pants, and doesent say much for marshallnulls durability, although that was the only problem, i havent had to replace the valvenulls yet but im sure that will be costly. This amp is much more than anyone would ever need would recomend if you had money but there are plenty of other amps just as good and cheaper and smaller.. although there is kudos standing in front of a Marshall half Stack feeling your balls shake. would only recomend this beast for touring bands whonulls record companynulls will put up the cash.. Its probably more than i need for my level i was left some money and thought what the hell. Good amp though plenty of creamy overdrive.. |

Overall this is a great amp wich has lived up to my expectations so far, I Bought this amp for that marshall sound and i am very happy with the sound, i have only had it six months though and i appreciate thats not long enough to really judge it properly. I wont be buying another amp for a long time {cant afford it} but when i do it will probably be smaller |
