Review Jay Turser 7 - String

Review by Xer0:I on 5.12.2006

I bought my Jay Turser 7-String Electric on Ebay about 6 or 7 years ago. I payed $180 for it, but itnulls MSRP is at $550. At the time, I had only been playing on an EXTREMELY crappy accoustic guitar and i also played/play keyboards and other instruments. I was always interested in 7-string guitars mainly because my favorite band was/is Korn (they use 7-string, even have theynullre own Ibanez Signature Series - "K7"). I loved the low tones and the awsome sounds that were managable with a 7-string.
The thing that caught my attention about this guitar was the price. I was lookin for somethin cheap to get started on, and this worked for me at the time.

  Features

The guitar was pretty standard. It had a tone knob, volume knob, and pickup switch that switched between two fairly decent sounding humbucker pickups.

  Playability

The shape of the guitar is perfect. The body is the thinnest I have ever seen... Perfect for comfort.
The strings feel perfect and are perfectly positioned. The bridge is strong and sounds perfect and is nicely adjustable as usual.
The neck feels smooth with medium sized frets.

  Quality

The sound quality is good. For being a cheaper brand guitar, it was better than I had expected. I am looking into purchasing new pickups but other than that, the sound is great. I also use the guitar with a Line6-POD 2.0 and a Line6-Spider Amp. The effects sound perfectly clear using this guitar.

  Durability

Inullve abused this guitar to the max. For a couple years when I first got it, I didnnullt have a case or stand for it so it would basically be tossed around my room.
There are a few scratches in the body now, but the sound has remained the same. The strings hold their tuning perfectly, and the tuning sensitivity is perfect.
Live shows have been great with this guitar.. the sound has been as good as I have needed it.

  Overall

My overall opinion is that this was a good decision. I am lookin into either a new guitar or just replacing the pickups but this guitar has been great for me for the past 6-7 years. I recommend!
