Review Ibanez RG7321

Review by a visitor on 14.7.2006

I bought this guitar at the local music store (wich did take 3 months before they had it in the store :( ) first of all I bought it because I think it has the best look any guitar could have.
And of course I have tried a more expensive version to try it out. Also KoRn had this guitar when they started =D. I paid 429 euro`s for it.

  Features

First of all, it just looks smood, a guitar you can fall in love with just because of it`s look. I also like the long sustain, wich could also be its weakness, sometimes when you want it to stop ringing it keeps on making sound, this is of course because of the very loose strings.
I didnt have any technical problems when I bought it though, some people do have a problem with the connection in the hardware.
Though I think that shouldnt be a problem if you got some tin and soldering.
Another thing to be happy about is the big difference in pickup sounds when switching between pickups.
Though this isnt a guitar for mainly clean.

  Playability

Good playability, but when you were used to small frets and hard-to-bend strings it could take a day or two to get used to the jumbo frets and very easy to bend strings.
Thats also something you have to watch out with, the strings get bend so easy, that you may get to many bends while you want normal clean sounds.
Though this is of course a need because you dont have a tremolo.
I like bending way more than tremolo anyway because you get the tremolo sound a lot faster.
In a matter you can think of your self a very good player when playing this guitar, while its the guitar doing the job for you.

  Quality

When on a certain volume, and with enough distortion or overdrive, it`s WAY BEYOND perfect.
You really feel the power in your chest, the pickup placement is really good, and pickup lever makes you choose between this: bridge humbucker, and (one pickup) of each humbucker, all humbuckers on (wich makes a sound good for both clean and overdrive), parallel connected on the neck humbucker, and the whole neck humbucker.
Though there are only volume wheels, with enough distortion and overdrive you can not only amaze you audience but also yourself.
The neck humbucker gives a decent clean sound, though you may want to add some chorus effect on it.
The first time I played clean without chorus the clean actually gave a small, unwanted, sound difference.
Though this only happened twice it is something to consider.

  Durability

The guitar actually seems to play play better and more smood sound when playing with higher volume.
And unless you smack the guitar onto solid ground, this guitar is simply not destructable.
The tune stays in a long while, nice job on the string connection.
This guitar is actually very useable when playing before a crowd, it lever lets me down.
Although the strings for a 7string are always good, make sure you replace them before they get cut.
The frets also last long, Im saying this because Ive made many frets on other guitars unuseable after a while.
You could see this guitar as a scarred veteran guitar with a grumpy voice :)

  Overall

Im bought this rg 7321 now and it is exactly what I hoped for.
It`s a good guitar, perfect for metal and heavy rock, sharp sound, you may need some help on the clean but thats the only problem.
Of course if you have a Ibanez RG 7321 you will want a Ibanez UV777 later on.
DONT: buy something between the rg 7321 and the UV777 like the Ibanesz RG 1527, the metal sound is exact the same as rg 7321, and its clean is very bad.
and the K7 is perhaps a slight improvement in metal sound, it is only meant for metal and has to little diversity.

Really you should wait to get a UV777.
Untill that time you might even stay happy enough with RG7321

Bought in Rockers in london, £350 which is the average price for this guitar.

  Features

I bought this guitar because i was amazed at the price. Normally my local shop stocks K-7nulls and JEMSnulls which retail for around $1,700 a piece, so I was lucky to find this in there. Fixed bridge so theres no tremolo, no locking tuners. 24 jumbo frets so easy to play all songs. Made in Korea.

  Playability

If you buy a 7-string, you want fat low end sound, and this has no trouble producing that. I mainly bought it so i can play standard tuning then easily use the 7-string to play low Dnulls or Cnulls, without having to take the time to alter the tuning. I have not compared this guitar the other 7-strings, but i guess this guitar will pale in comparison to likes of K-7nulls or Universes.

  Quality

The quality of the sound is a little too harsh on the high end due to crap electrics. I havent had the time to open it up and have a look but thats where the fault is. Pick ups are not bad, nice low end crunch and using the pick up selector can weild some surprisingly nice tones for clean play. Works well with wah for most solos, but again, the high end can get a bit harsh.

  Durability

Ive had this guitar for about a year and theres one chip along the top cutaway (my fault) and a few little dings around the edges. Although its solid as a rock, has never let me down once in the year that ive had it. I play this guitar for about 2+ hours everyday and it stays relatively in tune for about a week, where minor adjustments fix it.

  Overall

Definately a purchase if a cheap 7-string is what your looking for. Will last you until you have the money to upgrade to a universe. Until then, this guitar does the job, and surprisingly well. After playing this guitar for a year, 6-strings feel like kids guitars, 7-strings are the way to go. You have all the features of a 6, with the extra added greatness of a lower string to play around with.

I bought this guitar from www.music123.com (awesome site) about 2 months ago, I paid $370 for it instead of 500 like i was going to in the store but its worth it.

  Features

First of all its a 7 string so if you like metal you shoulod like this.Itnulls pickup is so strong, i can do hammer-onnulls and pull-offnulls with amazing clairity.I love the seventh string, the only problem is it is kinda loose at first but it is not hard to get used to.I tuned the top string from B to A so its kinda like a really low drop D. Then i have my standard and my "drop d" you could call it.

  Playability

I can do everything with this, solos are almost easy with the 24th fret because you have more room and i can suprisingly bar chord alot easier.

  Quality

The best sounding guitar ive played and ive walked around tryed every guitar in music shops...quite a few times.

  Durability

This is really good, it doesnt go out of tun easily, i stood outside in 40 degree weather for a half hour and that can take it out of tune but it didnnullt. It not to heavy or to light, perfect for going crazy while playing a song.

Just buy this guitar or aleast try it out and give it a chance, not only i say this ibanez 7 string is good but bands like: KoRn, FLAW, Chimaria, Mushroomhead, and now i think even the deftones play them! This is the best guitar i have played.
