Review Ibanez K5

Review by Cliff666 on 8.8.2004

I bought this bass from McCormacks Music Shop in Glasgow, I paid about ?400 for it and so far it has been far worth the money.

  Features

The Ibanez K5 is a very strong looking brownish/red bass made of mahogany wood, in the words of www.ibanez.com the colour is Oil Finish. The bass has 24 frets and as the 12 marker it has K5 in the style of KoRnnulls font. It has six knobs controlling volume, treble, bass, mid boost and mid frequency. The bass has ADX active pickups which give it a excellent tone and gives your sound a great boost.

  Playability

This bass is the second best bass I have ever played. The first being the Rickenbacker 4003. Now we all know the quality of Rickenbackers, the K5 is only a little bit behind on the tone of the Rickenbacker as the it doesnnullt have the pick-up over the strings like the Rickenbacker which gives it a superb tone. Now the Rickenbacker inullm talking about ranges from ?1200-1600 and the K5 ranges from ?400-600...That isnnullt half bad a price considering the K5 is almost as good.

  Quality

I have one sound effect pedal which being a digi-tech. The digi-tech works wonders with the K5. It gives it that solo sound that you want, to make your bass heard. If younullve heard the band KoRn, you will have heard Fieldynulls bass playing and the sound he gets, thats the sound I get!

  Durability

Inullve had two basses including this one. My other being a Squier P-Bass, inullve had that bass for two years and the Ibanez has lasted great compared to that. It has marks only one minor scratch at the back from gigs. Out of the year inullve had this bass inullve never had to repair or change anything except the strings. The bass is very strong and durable, it will hold up almost anything and keep reliable to the owners needs.

  Overall

Overall, I love this bass and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a tone thats beefy, loud and powerful. I would give this bass 4,1/2 out of 5. The only lack being if you want a clean tone.
