Review Groove Percussion 5 Piece Set w Hardware & Cymbals

Review by a visitor on 7.7.2007

I bought it at SamAsh.
Paid $269.99.
It was my first kit I did not know much about good and bad sets.

  Features

The skins themself are weak I broke the bottom of the snare in about 1 year.
One high hat is cracked half way around the cymbal.
The crash cymbal has 2 broken parts on the edge.
It is not very unique.
The cymbals arennullt strong and donnullt sound very good.
The tom toms are okay and the bass drum sounds pretty good if you dampen it.

  Playability

I have to say compared to any other brands of drumsets this is the worst I have ever seen.
Itnulls a great set for people who are just starting.

  Quality

The sound quality for the cymbals are very poor, they sound like banging on pots and pans.
They arennullt exactly a brand you would buy like for example: Zildjans, Sabian, or Paiste.
It was my first time buying a real set and I did not know much about Cymbals so I just got them with the set.

  Durability

It is not very reliable I had to buy a new snare skin because it broke and 2 cymbals are broken.
It is not steady enough for gigs from my point of view.

  Overall

I wouldnnullt buy this set if I was a professional, only for a little practice.
I chose it because as I said before it was my first time buying a drumset, I did not know much about good and bad, for now itnulls good for me because I am not a wonderful percussionist, when I get the money I now know the good and bad sets and cymbals and considering to buy a better one when I get the money.

I got this for Christmas (of 2005) as my big gift, I know it was purchased for about $300 at Sam Ash, and they got it because it was the cheapest full set they could find.

  Features

This is a very under average set. I am pretty sure the drums are not made of maple, or any high quality wood for that matter, but they sound ok. The included hardware is very bad other than the straight cymbal stand, which I havent had any problems with yet. The bass pedal included has a very bad clamp on the actual beater, and it will fall down from time to time. The included hihat pedal was absolutely horrible, the pedal fell with absolutely no abuse about a month after I got it. The cymbals are ok, for beginners. I didnt include a ride, so I had to by a seperate one (see my review on the Sabian B8 Ride), but as for the included Crash/Ride, the Ride noise of it is horrible, while the crash is actually pretty nice if you hit it hard. The hihats are ok.

  Playability

For a drum set, If it had all new hardware and cymbals, it would perform much better. But, since it does not, it is very hard to play it well without having to fix things along the way. This drumset is OK for beginners, but advanced players will DEFINITELY WANT ANOTHER SET.

  Quality

The sound quality from all the drums is pretty good, and the cymbals, not that bad. But I MUST STRESS that the HARDWARE IS NOT RELIABLE. AT ALL.

  Durability

The included hardware is just absolutely horrible, the tom heads included are very weak, gaining many holes in only the first few weeks. This is DEFINITELY NOT A GOOD SET TO USE AT LIVE GIGS. The bass pedal is always in need of fixing. The hihat stand BROKE IN THE FIRST WEEK.

  Overall

I am DEFINITELY CONSIDERING AN ENTIRELY NEW SET, saving nothing other than my ride I got seperately. This is an obvious example of the YOU.GET.WHAT.YOU.PAY.FOR idea, as it was the cheapest full set. If you plan on playing drums in the long run, you will probably want to invest in a better set, such as a TAMA, PDP, OR Yamaha. And of course, Pearl is a GREAT choice too.
