I bought a used 2002 Gibson SL Special from MusicGoRound for $499. It was in mint condition and included a Gibson USA hard case. A steal for a guitar that retails for $800.

This is just a stripped down LP standard. It has a mahagony body(flat top) without the maple cap and no binding. The fretboard also is not bound and has small trapezoid inlays instead of the larger ones. Herenulls the best part though-the electronics are exactly what is put in the $2000+ LPnulls and it sounds great! Standard 3 way selector with 2 volume and 2 tone controls. |

The action was just slightly higher than I prefer but a slight neck and bridge adjustment and this thing plays great. |

Again, this is the same pickups/electronics that are in the LP standards/customs and it sounds like it. |

It feels as good as any Gibson I have played. Made in the USA and I am sure it will last. It is still quite heavy and I would definately recommend strap locks. |

For the price it cannullt be beat. The sound is great-maybe not quite up to the sound of the standards but it is way less $$$$. I would not personally spend $1500 more for a stadard but if you want the maple top and all the ornaments I guess it would be worth it. |

I bought this guitar at musiciansfriend.com for $600. Inullve had this guitar for about two years now. It has been my favorite guitar since the day that I bought it.

The pickups (490T 498R) are sensational, excellent for any style of music. The body and finish arennullt extraordinary, it has a very plain ebony paint job and it has a flat body. I had to buy strap locks for it because the guitar had the tendency to fall off of my strap. Also its a bit heavy, but it makes up for that with its sound quality and playability. Itnulls a very simple guitar, and it has two volume and two tone controls and three-way switching. |

This guitar performs to my needs. It has a complete 22 fret reach. The action of the strings is superb, you barely have to touch the strings to get the notes to ring out. The neck is a bit broad, but It doesnnullt hinder my playing at all. |

Very clean humbucking tone. Even after two years it still maintains a wonderful sound, which is completely unhindered. |

A very reliable guitar. It occasionly needs tuning, but thatnulls no hassle. Itnulls had no real technical difficulty in my two years of having it. As for live gigs, Inulld say that itnulld be just as good as any other guitar. |

This guitar as simple as it may be, is gorgeous to behold, and its a true bargain as similar Les Pauls cost nearly $1000 simply for the wood and color. I recommend this guitar to anyone looking to get a nice Les Paul at a bargain price. |
