I Will start with the Good points. It has a very lightweight body with 2 volume and 2 tone controll knobs very handy for blending sounds. The bad points about this guitar 1 it is very top heavy when playing live the neck will always fall to the ground if not holding it. The strap screws are too small so your strap always falls off. The pickup selectors have genreally been wired in quiet badly and have a tendancy to cut out the bridge pickup (this is obviously the case on mine i dont know about others) The pickups on them are frankly quiet poor, The alnico pick ups produce a muddy very middly sound with not much clairty to them. the overall clean sound is not up to scratch of that from say fender and musicman. when played with dirt the sound however does give a thick creamy tone full of lovely harmonics. But as im a blues/rock/funk guitarist the main point needs to be its clean sound which is not up to scratch at all. good guitar if mainly using dirt but too many phsical flaws for my likeing. |

The action on these guitars is exellent you can get a real low action on them without getting any fret buzz at all.The neck on these instruments is amazing a nice fast neck with a nice finish on the wood so when playing live your hands dont stick to the wood (comon problem iv found with strats) |

this is where the guitar lacks on its generall overall sound i use an orange rockverb 100 head with an orange 4 by 12 cab a very nice amp set up and out of my 3 guitars this is the only one which lacks severly. The build quality however is really good something gibson are renowned for. |

I have had many problems with the guitar slipping out of tune with the standard gibson machine heads so i replaced them with some shcaller locking machine heads this fixed that problem straight away. Other than the problem with the pickup selector i mentioned i havnt had any others. One thing though i own a musicman luke and a strat aswell and i find the strings on my SG will sound completely lifeless after about 5 days whereas on my 2 others they last for a good 2 weeks of constant play. |

in my opinion if i had ?1000 to spend on a guitar i wouldnt go for this one by a long shot. I would be straight to the nearest musicman dealer and buy a luke or an axis anyday. This is just my honust opinion of my SG i hope you dont have the same problems too |

Bought in New Jersey - Monmouth Music paid $700.00 US whilst on holiday. Always wanted a real SG -my very first electric guitar was a Kaye SG - it was awful and a long time ago. A real SG just became a mojo item for my middle age. I tried Gibson SG special in UK as more affordable here but nasty finish and odd neck profile and fingerboard finish put me off so it became a quest for a Standard SG which compared back to back is miles ahead of the special. I tried the Voodoo edition in Canada too but that didnnullt quite do it for me either.

Now for me this is where it excels. I have played no other guitar that encourages me to play it more like this one does ( I own / ed Fenders, Hohners, Ibenezs, Tanglewoods, and a squier and the Kay thing! and played loads of others including a vintage SG, Les Paul etc etc). The SG standard is simply great. the fretboard is lightening fast the tone is so variable for blues to Rock, the action is low and its not so heavy that it hurts your back after an hour. The neck is quite narrow and its profile is just right for me. No buzzs. |

Look carefully at the neck and the fretboard is beautifully bound at the edge over the frets. Specials etc arennullt. This helps make it feel fast and smooth in the hand. The quality of the wood seems high too and the finish has had been well attended to. The pick ups are ballsy and yet capable of very clean sound too. |

The guitar is finely balanced with a slim body. It is prone to atmospherics and needs a good period to aclimatise with temperature changes -more noticable with this one than with other guitars I have owned. After that its fine and stays in tune well. Its light and would gig well. |

I chose this one nullcos it was the only ebony one they had in the shop. It was older stock and was well priced. It is still my mojo. The only SG I havennullt tried I would like to try is the Angus signature edition. Maybe one day... |

I love the neck on this thing, but I love all Gibson necks. This is by far the most enjoyable Gibson Inullve owned. Inullve had an 85 Explorer, 78 ES-175 (another great one) and an 82 Les Paul Deluxe. None of those guitars touch this SG for playability. The LP would have been real close, but it just didnnullt feel right when I played it standing up. |

I chose this guitar mostly based on reviews I was reading. I had sold all of my guitars with the exception of an acoustic, and I was ready for a new electric and some home studio equipment, so I started researching guitars. I was looking for the perfect guitar within a reasonable price range. The SG met my needs. I donnullt regret the decision at all. I can play all kinds of music with the SG. |

It is a brilliant and beautiful guitar. The colour is incredible (its a dark red it looks like its made out of rubys or summin like that.) It sound terrific. With 2 volume controls and 2 tone controls you can have so many different sound with out a pedal or anything like that. It is so comfy to play because of the unique shape. |

Is is very reliable. The input socket is on the front so you cant pull it out when younullre playin it. The tuning pegs only need adjusting once or twice if you want to put into drop D tuning. The only problem is that the part were the neck joins onto the head is very weak and is easy to snap so if you get one you gotta be very careful were you leave it(in the case/proped up against summin). |

Awesome. The look, sound, weight, are all awsome. If you want a new guitar dont even think about any other guitar even the les paul. IT plays just as good if not better and its like 5 pounds lighter. Two 490r nickel plated humbuckers perfect for both light blues or jazz or heavy distortion. The toggle switch is in a perfect position unlike the les paul getting in you way. The picking guard looks really cool. It looks cooler than the 61 reissue and the les paul. It also comes with an awesome case. |

Better than the nullstrat. In any case I think that Stevie ray Vaughan or Jimi Hendrix would like this better than those crappy strats. Fender nullaint got nothinnull on gibson. I play a lot of Blues, Jazz, or heavy metal, and rock and roll. No other guitar is more well rounded when it comes to playing clean or heavily distorted. I cannot put this guitar down! When I play Stevie Ray Vaughannulls/Jimi Hendrixnulls song Voodoo Chile with the olnull wah pedal in the beginning it even does that better than the strat. |

The sg is very reliable. You hardly have to tune it unless you bang it but it looks so awesome that I am actually going to take responsibility for it for the first time in my life. If you use the case that the new ones come in it should never really get that damaged. Im only 12 so I cant really go on for alot of live gigs. |

The SG Standard has everything you could want. It comes with two Humbucker pickups: 498T in the bridge and 490R in the neck. Has a three-way selector switch. I replaced the neck pickup witha null57 Classic. The 490R is a good pickup, I just wanted something different. |
