The Gibson Les Paul Bass has been my dream bass for a while now and when a 1995 model came up pre-owned for ?700 (about $1400 US i think) i jumped at the chance (here in the UK these are hard to get hold of new and hardly ever come up preowned)...

I have only plugged it in at a decent volume a couple of times (one gig, two band practices, through a carvin r1000 bass head and 15inch sub) and I have not been dissapointed (the looks on my band mates faces alone made it worth it!). I also own a Fender Jazz deluxe V (five string) and although making the transition back to a 4 stringer was strange the Gibson made it easy... The neck is spacious but not too wide giving you loads of room to put your fingers but not so much younullre searching for the note, the body is small but everything is where younulld intuitively want it to be...
One thing I must point out is that this bass is HEAVY and it has quite a long neck in proportion to itnulls size so if younullre looking for a starter bass, this ainnullt it! Like some of the other reviews on here I would deffinitely say this isnnullt a bass for anyone wanting to play smooth jazz... itnulls a caged beast! Plug it in and it wants to rock!
Overall I wouldnnullt say this is the most versatile of basses but itnulls never claimed to be that... If you want an all rounder of a bass pick up a Fender jazz or something, if on the other hand younullre wanting a bass that is going to blow people away both in looks and sound... your search has ended! |

I bought mine at musiciansfriend.com for $1,649.99. They also had an Epiphone version for $419 but Gibson is much better quality

In my opinion, best bass sound quality ever. With two uncommon bass humbuckers, four knobs (Two volume, two tone), carved maple neck, and a mahogany carved body, this is by far my favorite bass. |

The sound quality is pristine, plugged in to any eden amp it is like the bass god ascended from hell...I mean, descended from heaven. I recomend plugging it into a BOSS bass overdrive pedal. Perfect overdrive. |

It holds up very nicely, I use it in my band, its never broken at all for any reason. Replacing strings is easy and its simple to find the perfect eqnulls for it. |

I chose this bass because of the legandary sound quality that the Les Paul Guitars had. I knew if a guitar can be that good, a bass can probably be a lot better, and it is. I still stand by that opinion and I always will stand by it. This is by far the best bass ever. |
