Review Fender Starcaster

Review by a visitor on 29.12.2010

A friend gave it to me 2 years ago before I knew anything about guitars. It cost him about 170-200 dollars.

  Features

This is a terrible guitar. The body construction is made of basswood, which is very weak and scratches easily. It also has 21 frets. Not even 22, that's not a good sign. Mines gets out of tune about every 5 minutes of use and even less if you use a whammy bar. The maple fretboard has way too much friction and hammer-ons are hard to do, and forget about tapping on this garbage. It has 1 volume and 2 tone knobs, which should be the opposite. The tuners might as well be called untuners. It is also bolted on and it is made in china. The pickups only pick up, and produce a terrible sound.

  Playability

I am a metal guitarist, and this guitar can't play metal. Again, the pickups are terrible, and aren't of a real brand. The worst part is that it has major fret buzz. It also sounds like a dying cat with the sp.10 amp that comes with it. I have a cheap Ibanez IJX40 Jumpstart that sounds WAAY better than this guitar, and it is very similar. I also have a Jackson SLAT3-6 Soloist, which is 10000000000 times better than 1/4 of my fender.

  Quality

The basswood body and bolt on design give away at first glance that this guitar has terrible quality. The whammy bar broke in half and the bridge has a cheap metal. This guitar shouldn't be 200 dollars, maybe not even 100.

  Durability

I've had this guitar for 2 years, and although it has survived, it is in bad condition. I treat it with good care, but it has many scratches on the back because of the basswood body. One time I was using the whammy bar and it broke off, thus leaving part of the bar inside the bridge, and I can't get it out. This makes playing sometimes uncomfortable. One of the tone knobs fell off too.

  Overall

This is the worst guitar ever made by any company. Note how its not even called Stratocaster, it's STARcaster. my reccomendation, save up a couple hundred bucks, and buy a guitar that will actually make you happy. For 300 bucks, you can get an Ibanez RG350MYE, which is an amazing guitar for it's price.
