Review Fender Standard Stratocaster

Review by a visitor on 10.1.2010

I bought my MIM Stratocaster new in 1997 from Guitar Showcase in San Jose, CA, for about $300. I had tried a friend's Strat about a week prior and was so impressed with it that I decided to buy one of my own (it didn't hurt that I'd always wanted a Stratocaster anyway). I came home with a red one (at the time I think Fender called this color "Crimson Metallic"; it's about the same shade as their current Candy Apple Red). My first color choice was actually white, since I'm a big Hendrix fan; second choice was black, since I also really like Clapton. But above all else, I wanted a maple fingerboard, and when I went into the store to buy my new axe all the white and black Strats had rosewood fingerboards. I "settled" for a red one, but I really don't think I settled at all.

  Features

It's a Strat, with all the good and not-so-good that entails. Three single-coil pickups, bolt on one-piece neck, vintage-style tremolo tailpiece, 5-position switch. In general, my guitar was very nicely finished from the factory. The neck is very comfortable to play. While it isn't as fast as some guitar necks I've tried, it's fine for my playing style (I play blues, classic rock and some metal). The tremolo doesn't stay in tune if you do a lot of dive-bombs or leave it floating; one of the first things I did with this guitar was tighten the tremolo springs until the bridge plate hit the top of the body. While this isn't necessarily the "right" way to do it, it did improve tuning stability and sustain quite a bit. I'll probably block the bridge some time in the near future.

  Playability

As I mentioned above, this guitar has a very comfortable neck. The controls are easy to reach (which can be a problem, as I occasionally bump either the volume knob or the pickup switch while playing!). After the "modification" I did with the tremolo, it stays in tune quite well as long as I don't go nuts with the wang bar. And of course, one of my favorite characteristics of this guitar (and almost every other Stratocaster I've played) is that it is light and well-balanced.

  Quality

Basically, this guitar sounds like what you'd expect a Strat to sound like. It has that trebly twang on the bridge pickup, the "quack" of the bridge/middle combo that every Strat guy loves, the sweet singing tone of the neck pickup (one of my favorite tones for soloing)... My only real complaints about the sound are these: First of all, it's pretty noisy in any of the single-pickup settings if you run a lot of gain (which I do). Second, while the pickups sound good, they're a little on the weak side for my tastes. The rest of the guitar is so good, though, that it would probably be worthwhile to drop in a better set of pickups.

A final complaint about this guitar's sound is that it just doesn't work that well for metal. I have yet to find any amount of distortion that adequatly covers up this guitar's twang. But this is a small issue; I also own a PRS and it works quite well when I'm feeling metal-ish.

  Durability

I was in a band at the time I bought this guitar, and during that time it never let me down once. The body finish still looks good almost thirteen years after I bought it. The hardware still functions well enough, although the chrome finish hasn't held up particularly well. But overall I'm happy with it; so far I've never had the pickguard off this one.

  Overall

I will not call this the Best. Guitar. Ever. But it is very good, and the few flaws it has can be easily remedied.

I bought my strat from guitar center. It set me back $460. I think it is a good guitar for the price. I had been playing the guitar for about a year and a half when i bought my strat. Previously i owned an awful squire. Finally i decided to upgrade. It was well worth it.

  Features

Strong points- good playability and very smooth neck. The guitar handles bends very well. It doesnt go out of tune very easily. The pick ups are great, they give off a good sound.

Weak points- I know im a little bias because im a fender guy and not one for gibsons, but the standard strat really doesnt have any weak points. Its a good solid guitar.

  Playability

If you want to play heavy metal and iron maiden then this is not the guitar for you. I suggest and Ibanez, Jackson, or a gibson les paul. But if you are looking to play country, classic rock, and especially blues, the strat is the way to go. It makes a very smooth lulaby sound that is very pleasant to listen to. It sometimes seems like you can make the guitar cry like the great bb king did. Its an excellent instrument.

  Quality

The sounds effects are pretty good. The pickups are very nice. The guitar has excellent range as well. I believe that this guitar preforms just as well as any les paul or more expensive strat. Its a quiet guitar and doesnt generate much feedback at all.

  Durability

Once you tune up this guitar is gonna stay that way. My strat has been dropped repeadedly and it still looks sharp. Its a very durable axe. This guitar is perfect for gigs. I use it at all my jam sessions and gigs and it hasnt failed me yet. However it never hurts to have a back up guitar just in case.

  Overall

I chose this guitar because i love the way fenders sound. I highly recomend this guitar to anyone who is a beginner or an expert. It wont let you down its fantastic. However, like all guitarist as your skill progress you like to treat yourself to a better instrument. So in the future i will get a better guitar.

I bought my Mexican Fat Strat on Ebay for 325.00. It is an absolutely beautiful guitar. I bought it because I own a Squier Strat and I wanted to see what a real Strat was like. The guitar was built in 2002, and I bought it in 2006.

  Features

It is black, with white pickguard, one humbucker at the bridge, and two single coils. Rosewood fretboard, nice and fast. One of the things I liked about my cheapo Squier was that it had the best neck of all my guitars, IMHO, including my Gibson Les Paul Studio and my Ibanez RG 550. I never use the tremolo, I got spoiled with the Floyd Rose on the Ibanez. Two tone, one volume control, and the 5-way switch. Now herenulls the thing...I switched out the pickguard assembly and installed a new one that came with Lace Sensors installed. The sound is phenomenal. The Lace Sensors assembly cost me another 250 dollars...worth every penny. I play jazz and soft rock.

  Playability

I can get the sounds I want out of it, from clean jazz to slightly over-driven. It doesnnullt do quite as well as a heavy metal guitar (Inullve tried it.) I would grab my RG 550 if I needed to do metal. I donnullt think the Les Paul is particularly suited for metal either.

  Quality

The sound quality was great with the stock pups, but the Lace Sensors are really great. Listen, you guys who mentioned the single-coil hum, be advised, that the hum goes away completely if you use a wireless system. I have tried body cavity shielding, etc., and one day I plugged my Strat into a Nady wireless guitar system and lo and behold the hum disappeared completely...no wires, nothing to create a ground loop and subsequent hum. Wireless may not work for everybody, but you never know. My Nady is at least eight years old, and I know there are better systems on the market now. Take your Strat to your local music store and hook her up to a wireless, crank the amp to make, and see for yourself.

  Durability

I have found it reliable enough to take as the only guitar on a gig. I sometimes take a Variax nylon acoustic for doing some of the bossas (an amazing piece of gear, BTW). I change my strings once a month, and I usually put 10nulls on it. It stays in tune fairly well, but I always check my tuning between sets anyway.

  Overall

It is a great workhorse guitar, and it is lighter than a Les Paul. I like having the humbucker on the Fat Strat. I am very happy with it.

I got my Mexican Standard Strat from K&S Music (great mom&pop music shop in PA) in 1996. However, I got it for my birthday so Inullm not sure how much it cost...it was probably around 400-450 dollars.

  Features

Given that Inullm not a pro, this guitar has everything I need. The pick-ups give that uniquely rich nullstratnull sound that I love....I even find the nullhumnull endearing. The neck is just the right size for my hands (I have smaller hands) and I love the feel of the rosewood fretboard. Of course, this strat comes with the two tone dials, single volume dial, and 5-way pickup switch...which provides me with everything I need. My strat is a beautiful 2-tone sunburst...itnulls just a gorgeous guitar. I really only have two qualms about this guitar. The first is the placement of the volume dial...my hand often grazes it when I play closer to the bridge (which can get annoying at times). The second is that the nullDnull string goes out of tune much more quickly than the other strings (it also nullrattlesnull sometimes). Inullve heard this is a common problem with guitars, though. I just give it a quick fine-tune and Inullm back to playing again!

  Playability

In my opinion, my strat plays like a dream. It is a very versatile guitar in terms of the sounds you can get out of it (especially if younullre into playing blues, rock, and jazz). The smaller neck and rosewood fretboard allow for relatively fast and smooth playing (especially for people with smaller hands like me!). It is a guitar that just feels great to play (the feel on this guitar is greatly superior to other guitars Inullve played).

  Quality

For the price, this guitar has great quality. It looks, feels, and sounds like any American made strat. It definitely performs better than other similarly priced guitars. I started playing guitar on a Jackson Dinky (which was a piece of crap...but I learned on it)....it felt nullclunkynull (cannullt think of another way to describe it) and it sounded pretty terrible (even with a humbucker), so when I got my strat, it was like playing a super-high end guitar. Just goes to show that a Mexican strat will give you great sound, feel, and playability for a lot less than an American made strat.

  Durability

Inullve had this guitar for 10 years and I have never had to have anything adjusted on it. It still looks beautiful with very few nicks or scratches (if there are any, itnulls because of my clumsiness!). I rarely use the whammy-bar so it stays in tune for a pretty long time (however, as I mentioned earlier, the nullDnull string tends to go out of tune way more often and more quickly than the others).

This is a very durable guitar for the price.

  Overall

I love this guitar, plain and simple. Given that Inullm not in a band and I play for fun, this guitar fits all of my needs. It is beautiful looking and beautiful sounding. I donnullt think Inullll ever need or want another guitar.

Review by astral on 2.1.2007

I got my Standard Strat at the local Guitar Center for about 400 bucks. Inullve always wanted a red strat, and I wanted a new blues guitar so it just came together.

  Features

The guitar is pretty basic, just the basic Strat and a gig bag. Itnulls a strat, you know, three single pickups, five way selector switch, one volume two tone knobs, three ply pickguard and a Fender syncronized trem and in-line tuners, like I said itnulls a Stratocaster. The strings arennullt bad at all, and the gig bag was really good quality.

  Playability

Inullve played quite a few guitars, Gibsons, Ibanez, BC Rich, Yamaha and other Fenders and while the Standard Strat is not by any means the most amazing guitar Inullve ever touched, itnulls better than most. I play mostly blues and classic rock on the Strat and it does it with honor. My girlfriend has a very nice neck-through-body construction BC Rich, and the Strat feels just as solid. I prefer the maple neck to rosewood, and thatnulls the neck I got on mine. A friend of mine is the opposite way and she loves her rosewood necked Strat, so whatever, get what you want on the fret. The thing that really sticks out in my mind though is how quality this guitar feels. Inullve played Epiphones and other guitars of the same price range and this one just feels better. The controls are more solid, and the fretboard has a faster feel.

  Quality

Inullve played this guitar at least an hour a day since getting it in September, and it holds its own well. Inullve jamed with people playing many many different guitars and this one, in the right hands plays just as well. It preforms as well as the American Standard Strat in my oppinion and there really isnnullt a difference in playing between the Mexican and my American Strat.

  Durability

The Stratocasters have a Fender Syncronized Trem so if you use a tremlo arm a lot younullll be spending a lot of time tuning it too. The build construction is solid, the woods are high quality and feel solid. I live in Milwaukee and take the bus most places so the guitar can get brought through a few temperature and humidity extremes when I take it with me, which I do a lot. One minute I can be walking through zero degree weather with snow (the guitar is in its case of course) and then go into a 70 degree bar. All it needs is a quick fine tuning and itnulls good. If you want this guitar and donnullt have a tuner buy one with it, Inulld suggest a pedal tuner as it fits well in the gig bag and is, in my oppinion much quicker to use.

  Overall

Overall, itnulls a great value above all else. This is a real Fender Stratocaster, not a Squire, not a copy and thankfully not a Starcaster. For the value, itnulld be hard to find a better guitar. This is not to say that it is perfect, it suffers from all the classic flaws of the Stratocaster but these are outweighed by the quality construction and sound quality.

This guitar would rock for:
Blues
Jazz
Classic Rock
Big Band
Country

This guitar would suck for:
Metal
Punk
(some) Emo

Bought it for Christmas from guitar center. Just a warning, guitar center is a terrible store for actually uying instruments. (guitars, anyway.) So that might have to do with its bad-ful-ness.

  Features

This is the worst guitar ever. Honestly. How do people even like them? This is probably the worst electric guitar you could buy besides the pink Hello-Kitty ones. Sounds terrible, plays terribly, and practically falls apart. I would never reccommend this guitar to anyone. Some people like these guitars, which is fine, but experienced musicians who really understand music dislike them with a passion. Not a good guitar, really. Just not good. Maybe this is a good guitar for different people. Stay Classy guys!

Not great at all.

I bought this guitar as my first one back in 1999, It was $275 back then, and i bought it cause it looked great and felt real nice.

  Features

When I bought it i had no idea about tone or anything, but once i figured out how much i could do with the sound i was amazed. Now i have upgraded my pick-ups to texas special, sounds awesome now and still plays as good, if not better than the first day I got it.

  Playability

This guitar gives me a bluesy tone, but it is not as fast as i would like for metalish solos, but fast enough to get away with it.

  Quality

Single coils make noise, but thats well known, tone is good for just about any kind of music, and you can always upgrade.

  Durability

Never had a problem, and I have played many gigs with it, really durable.

  Overall

I love this guitar and will not trade it for anything, cause I can still build it into whatever i want it to be.

I bought it from a friend for $150(good deal)and i bought it because i needed a new guitar for my collection

  Features

It is a good guitar but it wasnnullt in the best shape of its life. It wasnnullt the guitarnulls prblem, but the person that caused the problems for the guitar.

  Playability

Nice sound. I like the easy string change capability because i change my strings about one a month

  Quality

Good feedback. I found out that you have to buy a fender amp or a really expensive amp like a Marshall Stack or something to get REALLY good sound.

  Durability

Like all guitars, using the wammy bar causes tuning problems and the pickups are not all that great. But for the price i got it for, what can you expect?

  Overall

Good guitar for starters. For more advances players, i suguest buying the American Strat.

My guitar is a 96 Mexican made strat that I bought new in 96. Its a fat strat model with the humbucker and two single coils. I think I paid about 300 dollars for it. It has all the original equipment, and I have never had to do any repairs on it whatsoever in the nine years Inullve owned it. The quality is very good, the finish has stayed immaculate, and the tone, especially through the humbucker is very rich and pleasing.

  Features

It doesnt have the higher end tuners and saddles that the newer mexican strats have, but the whole guitar functions very well and Inullve never had a problem with any of the hardware. Im also very pleased with the tone of the factory pickups, especially the humbucker.

  Playability

The playability is very good. The guitar has a good feel, and stays in tune pretty well for a tremolo guitar.

  Quality

For the price the quality is excellent, no excess noise, never had to repair or replace anything on the guitar.

  Durability

This guitar has held up amazingly from the black finish to the hardware, it still looks and plays like new.

  Overall

I chose this guitar for its great looks and sound, and its affordable price. I would recommend a Mexican Strat to anyone.

I got it at Guitar Center and paid about 400 dollars for it

  Features

A well fretted rose-wood board easy to play. Ok pickups, but I switched mine to diadario actives, and it sounds alot better.

  Playability

Easiest guitar on earth to play, thatnulls why so many beginners start with a strat, and so many pronulls stick with it.

  Quality

Doesnnullt buzz, you can get a clear tone for Jazz, or if you want a grungy tone it can get that too, the only limit to this guitar is how good your amp is, I suggest any fender tube.

  Durability

You cans drop this stomp on it then throw it in the gutter to rot pick it up a week later and it sounds as good as new, the main thing that makes it better than Gibson. And if you do manage to damage it it doesnnullt cost that much to repair

  Overall

If Hendrix and Clapton used this guitar it should speak for itself. But even Jimmy Page said it was the best guitar you can buy for different types of music. And if you play more than power chords this is the guitar for you!!

I bought mine at Samash about a month ago, it was on sale for 320$.

  Features

Having had an Ibanez RG120 before it, (it was a piece of crap), the feel was awesome, almost as good as the feel on my other Ibanez GSA60. I think that the only crappy thing this guitar has are the pickups, but who knows, it might be my amp. The sunburst paint is absolutely amazing, and the neck is pretty comfortably (rosewood).

  Playability

This guitar is perfect for my type of music. I like to play Pink Floyd and Zeppelin stuff, as well Metallica stuff and Blink182 stuff on it. Compared to my other Ibanez guitars, its pretty good.

  Quality

Well the sound quality could be better, Inullm thinking of getting Fender noiseless pickups. It does perform better than my previous guitar, and it is alright.

  Durability

The tuning is pretty good, and since i never use the whammy bar, it never gets out of tune. I like to use BriteStuff guitar polish on it, it makes it harder for it to get scratched, and it does great with fender super bullets.

  Overall

I think this is a really good guitar for intermediate and advanced players. I chose it because most of my fav guitarrists use fender stratocasters. It was pretty good for my expectations, and I might change it one day for a fender 70s stratocaster or a Gibson Les Paul Jr.

I bought my Mexican made Standard Stratocaster for $410 at the local Sam Ash music store about a year and a half ago.

  Features

This beautiful guitar has a sunburst finish with a maple fretboard, rather than the popular rosewood. 21 frets, two tone controlls (which some may fine better than just one), one volume controll, and a five way switch. This guitar also came with Standard Bullets (strings) which are the best strings inullve ever played with. The three pickups are single coil which produce a hum, but limit the feedback as compared to humbuckers. The whammy bar will instantly put the tuning off, but only after serious bends on guitars that are "set-up" as the people at Sam Ash called it. The only problem i foud aside from the constant tuning after playing (which is major, but inullll describe that later) was the location of the volume controll. If you are use to playing closer to the bridge, this may be a bit tricky. The controll is right under the nullenull string and the third pickup. So it may get in the way when strumming. Other than that itnulls a great playing guitar.

  Playability

The Standard Stratocaster is a good rhythm guitar and a great lead. But that may change for who ever is playing and what they prefer. As compared to most Gibsons the Standard Stratocaster gives a sharper lead, which is ideal for blues or whatever your heart desires. The only thing i donnullt reccomend playing on the Stratocaster is hardcore or metal. It doesnnullt have a very heavy bottom to it at all.

  Quality

Well, there is the distinct Fender hum, but itnulls not as noticeable when on a lower pickup. This guitar is sharp, clear, and distinct. Again, great for lead. Playing heavy bass-ish riffs donnullt sound to good through the Fender because of the single coil pickups. The Standard Stratocaster is at itnulls best when playing blues, blue grass, classic rock, and modern rock. Basically anything if younullre open minded.

  Durability

Okay, about the tuning. The guitar i picked up came right from off the floor, aka: a "floor modle". It had not been set-up for constant playing outside the shop. The tremelo system had to be adjusted by a pro in the brand. I did not know that. So i just took it home, played a song, and became frustrated at the guitar for constantly going out of tune. But after the tremelo system was set-up for frequent whammy bar movement, it was beautiful. It takes about two days for it to slip out now. As far as gigs go, this guitar is awsome. The pickups wonnullt fail, nor will the strings. Itnulls also lighter than some other guitars out there, so itnulls easier on the shoulder for longer gigs.

  Overall

This guitar is my dream guitar, so i love it. The Stratocaster stood up to all of my expectations... except for the little tuning thing in the begining. I can play anything with this guitar. The small neck is ideal for me cause i have small hands. I chose this guitar because when i was younger i idolized Jimi Hendrix. I saw a video of him playing the white Fender Stratocaster at the Pop Fez, i was hooked on Fender for life. Then i actually found out what good playing quality the guitar had. So it was a bonus for me. I may consider getting an American Series Stratocaster, but i really donnullt want to work two jobs to get the money for that.

I bought my Mexican made Stratocaster from Cranbourne music in Melbourne, Australia on the 29th of June 2005 for $799.00 Aus.Originaly retailing for $1099.00 aus

  Features

Sunburst finish with rosewood fingerboard. Absolutly gorgeous. Fitted with fender super bullet medium gauge strings which provides easy bending, hammer ons and pull offs ect. Of course with single coils there will always be trade mark hum. I found the hum was reduced slighlty when 2 single coils are selected. Can get Fender noiseless single coils fitted for extra $300.00 aus. Whammy bar goes out of tune after 5 minutes of abusing the absolute hell out of it but is fine for regular use. Only 21 frets which some may find limiting. Love the 2x tone controls and 5 way selector switch which provides an awesome range of tonal possibilities.

  Playability

having owned a les paul copy before buying the strat, I found it moulded on to my body instantly. The double cutaway provides great access to high frets and the action is at a perfect setting

  Quality

being a blues player, I found the sound perfect, especialy with the neck pick up selected. having played an Ibanez Rg 270 before this, I found the Ibanez equaly as good, but less suited to my sort of sound.

  Durability

When reliability is concerned, The mexican stratocaster does really well. I found it stayed in tune for weeks on end with only minimal adjustment required (provided you dont use the whammy bar) and is perfectly suited for live work. As I mentioned before excesive whammy bar use does make the guitar go out of tune after about 5 minutes, but for the occasional dive bomb, it holds up fine.

  Overall

Having been Strat mad ever since I first stared playing, I found that I was in pure heaven from the moment I bought it. Brand new, the guitar does sound a bit "brittel", due to new strings being fitted, but that does go after a few days and found that it was worht every hard earned cent.

Hank Marvin strat Made in Mexico. Paid 799 euro for it in a sale in Music maker in Dublin Ireland and got a case thrown in so overall it cost me 835.The guitar was originally retailed at 1100 euros

  Features

The guitar has a very ice finish althought the colour a sort of pinky red might put some people off. Had three single couile pick ups. Vintage style machineheads and bridge. The neck is maple and higly polished. The frets are less jumbo than American strats. Overall the neck is very quick and I find it very easy to play.

  Playability

I had a Jamaha SF 600 and played the death out of the guitar, i find the guitar joy to play and the five tonal options make it a very versatile guitar. Has a totally different tone to my Tellycaster more refined. I thought the strat was all hype until I got this one

  Quality

AS I said the guitar does generate noise especially if you have the gain up. I find that as soon as your hand touches the fret boars the hum stops. Furthermore I lived in the country and have moved to the city and find that the guitar does not make as much noise maybe it was the earth in the country house.

  Durability

I donnullt bother using the tremmy arm and prefer to use the palm of my hand to use the floating bridge. I was surprised that the guitar didnullnt go out of tune as much as I thought it would. I did have to take the gutar back to the shop to get the saddle bridge adjusted and the guitar had been perfect since. I donnullt play live I am a home player and I play through A 15 watt Marshal amp. I found that it does have a slight hum when playing but this is the trade of for the single coil pickups. I could get some humbuckers for it but would really miss the bright bell like tones.

  Overall

I would reccomenf this guitar to those who are fanatical about playing. Frome clean to gain driven the guitar really sounds beautiful. but do expect a bit of hum because this baby uses humbuckers for god sake. As for comparing it to American strats buy a Mexican one If you donnullt have the cash for an American one the difference is minimal.

Akustikken.dk
July 2004
I wonnullt say how much i paid, it wouldnnullt make any sense for American anyways..

  Features

A Fender Standard Sunburst, MIM, Mable fret board.
Now to clarify a few things..
They ARE NOT, i repeat NOT made of poplar.
All MIM strats made after 2000 are made of poplar, however, Fender has misbadged them with "Body of poplar" stickers. (I have that in print from Fender).

other reviews have mentioned that "the seller is not responsible for Fendernulls misprints on their page", correct. But Fender says that theynullre made of alder since 2000, that the seller is selling a strat saying itnulls poplar due to a wrong sticker is partly the sellers fault (for not checking) and partly Fenders fault (for not checking the stickers).

I have a nice url here, that might shed some lights over the subject.

I got mine at L&M music for around $300......i have locking tuners on it and they are amazing.......i hardly ever have to tune the beast.

  Features

The tone controls are good. You can go from muddy unclear sound to hot and heavy with a simple flick of the pickup selecter. But......the bridge pickup is not what i would like. To tell the true, i would get it changed asap. Seymour Duncan hot-rails seem to work best.

  Playability

Its good.....and bad. The action on it is amazing. But the single coil hum is a killer. But over all its good on bends and hammer ons and stuff like that.

  Quality

Once agian the single coil hum. But thats nothing that cant be eliminated.

  Durability

On reliablity, its great. Hardly need to tune. And its sturdy enough for gigs.

  Overall

Good feel, decent sound, hate the hum love the feel......its worth it all the way.

i bought it from musicans friend for 349.00

  Features

there web site stated that it was a alder body but it was made with poplar wood. they said that they werennullt respondiable for misprints etc.. also the standard strat is made in mexico. basically it is a good guitar for the price the pickups arennullt the best , but are easy to up grade. like puting a seymour duncan hot rails in the bridge postion improved the sound a lot. all the controls work fine, the tuning pegs are adequate stays in tune. the action on my standard strat was set low and had no buzzes. i picked midnight wine and iwas pleased by the color.

  Playability

it plays fantastic, i really like the feel and balance on this standard strat.the neck is thin and fast it is easy to see why strats have a large following.

  Quality

even though it was made in mexico the overall quality is good, and solid.

  Durability

stays in tune, the rosewood neck looks great, and has a nice smooth feel. i have accidently bounced it off the floor once, and it didnnullt seem to phase it. the guitar is dependiable enough to play gigs with, and for smashing it to bits on a stage like the late cobain did.

  Overall

although i was disappointed that the standard fender stratocaster was made of poplar wood,( not alder as stated by musicansfriend ) the overal playability, quality, the guitars finish color, and the price has sold me it. with a few up grades to pickups it is an ass kickin guitar.

I bought mine at a NorCal Guitar Center for $349. It was on sale though, retail price was $549 which is why it was such a good deal.

  Features

Solid Alder Body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, three standard Strat piclups from Seymour Duncan. Three knobs, one volume, two tone. Floating bridge

  Playability

This guitar is perfect for me because my main talent is bass so I donnullt need a les paul or some other very expensive guitar. Even though it is meant for jazz and blues, all I use it for is punk and it works great for that. It sounds great with BOSS pedals.

  Quality

It buzzed a little but I replaced my bridge pickup with a lilnull 59 humbucker. I keep my pickup switch. Sounds good on Marshal amps.

  Durability

This guitar is great for live gigs, a combination of great bridge, great tuning pegs, and great strap pegs make it my first choice for live gigs. GHS boomer strings have never broken on it for me.

  Overall

I have to say, this is one of my favorite guitars. Therenulls not many guitars I would pick over this one.
