Review Fender P-Bass Special

Review by a visitor on 23.9.2004

i got my p special as a gift one year and its the only bass i own. my mom bought it for me at christmas and paid a farily good price for it, 789 bucks. guitar centers in texas are always cheaper so she got a better deal than anywhere else.

  Features

i love my bass, its one of the best ive played other than a fender jazz
even thought ive had this bass awhile i still havnt quite figured out the second tone control knob and button, theyre confusing to play around with because its hard to find a good trebly tone with the button engaged. the neck has a good action, mine has a few knicks and things from my drummer messing with it but otherwise its fine.
the second tone knob and button are pretty weird but thats about it

  Playability

its not the best in the world but it holds up well. i like fender jazzes better but hey i use what i have. it doesnt have the best tone with the jazz and precision pickups but its fine either way

  Quality

it has some buzz on the jazz pickup but its good.
its better than the regular precision bass because theres more things you can do with it,more options for sound.

  Durability

this thing never needs tuning unless you whack the head of it on somthing or have a little sister who likes to mess with your equipment.
ive used this bass at a few gigs and its help up pretty well.
ive whacked it into the ceiling fan a few times and it hasnt left a mark.
i like it

  Overall

i like fender products more than any other companies that make basses so this is a great bass. its lived up to everything ive wanted it to be but somtimes i need a little more and this bass doesnt quite get there. im planning on buying a 79 jazz fretless pretty soon so yes, this bass could be better than it is

I got it from the local music shop, not a chain or anything. they sell used and new stuff. I got it used a couple months ago for $80. It was a VERY good deal! its an EXCELLENT BEGINNER BASS!

  Features

Not many features, except mine has an extra pickup added...altho basses in general dont have many features especially not the third pickup...it has the standard three knobs...wood neck...its again an EXCELLENT BEGINNERnullS BASS!

  Playability

It is a very nice bass, i mean i am a beginner, but i can reach the frets and go between notes/chords/etc. very nicely!

  Quality

VERY DURABLE, LOOKS EXCELLENT, PLAYS EXCELLENT, AND MOST OF ALL SOUNDS EXCELLENT! altho this shouldnt matter in the rating, because its the amp that makes the sound...but the bass sounds good by itself/acousticly!

  Durability

It has held up through the shop, people handling it, me playing it, the original owner using it, and probably much much more...IT IS VERY RELIABLE

  Overall

Its my first and best bass guitar!
