Review Epiphone T-310

Review by a visitor on 26.8.2004

I bought this guitar in a guitar shop shop in Italy for 195 Euros (approx ?130) about a year ago.

The T-310 looks much like a fender Telecaster, but has the same neck/headstock as a Firebird. the body is laminated Alder, the Neck and fingerboard maple. The finish is a rather poor ebony. It has two single coil pickups, one volume control, one tone control and a threeway selector.

  Features

This guitar is so crap itnulls good. The Tone control makes no difference to the sound and may as well be removed. The volume pot gives no control whatsoever. It wonnullt work untill you turn it about halfway, and then there is no change to the volume untill you turn it up to the maximum volume. The pick-ups are just about passable, giving a mediocre clean sound, but a good overdriven/distorted sound. The machine heads are loose, so the strings go out of tune if you make a bend of more than a tone. The bridge is fautly, so the intonation changes frequently, also resulting in loss of tuning. A little adjustment was required to make this playable, including changing the machine heads and redoing the bridge. However, after the necessary changes (costing about ?50) the guitar really beginnulls to shine.

  Playability

This guitar is a workhorse. You can play any style you want, from blues to shred. The neck is extremely comfortable for someone with large hands, with perfect access to the upper frets. in terms of playability, it compares to an epiphone les paul.

  Quality

This guitar has very noisy pick-ups, which feedback nicely. it does mean that at high gain becomes intolerable, but mid levels, it does have a certain charm. Through effects, the sound is pretty average, but it does have an excellent sound through a wah pedal.

  Durability

After some adjustment, the guitar really begins to shine. Once i had cleaned up the electronics, the guitar became incredibly responsive. since i set it up, it has never failed me, lasting through around 50 gigs, and taking a hell of a thrashing. I have never had to change anything about it since setting it up.

  Overall

In spite of all the problems that i had with this guitar, i do love it. It feels good, and looks cool in a kind of retro way. the sound is good enough for me. I would suggest this as a live rig, but i would not recommend it to a beginner.
