Store: Steve's Music Price:$499 Finish:Ebony Black Why: Ever since I saw the flying V in a scorpions music video on Youtube, I simply fell in love with it. This was back when I was about 5...or something. Anyway, I just loved the bold design which pushed the boundaries of what we see guitars as today (mainly the Les Paul & Strat style guitars). So when I saw my dream guitar on sale at Steve's Music for a great price I just HAD to get it.

Strong: - has some killer gold finish accessories, 2 Tone knobs, 1 volume knob, pickguard, 3 way kill switch, great gold finish humbuckers Weak - strange shape causes sitting problems, too big (hard to find a proper case), freakin heavy!, volume and tone knobs are unlabeled, volume is middle knob (why?) |

The thing that I loved alot about this guitar was the humbuckers. They provided a sweet sound to every pinch harmonic i played, which is alot of fun to do. However, they aren't as hot as the humbuckers on the Gibson version, or the Les Paul, but they still sound pretty good. When you aren't using any distortion pedals or effects, the guitar has a surprisingly nice Jazz/ Blues sound to it which can be pretty good for players of that genre. The one bad part of this guitar is the shape. Ya, I know it looks pretty sick, but it takes practice to learn how to hold this beast if you want to play sitting down. Overall it still is a great guitar to play. |

(humbuckers above) Other than the sweet humbuckers, the sound of the wood and the shape aren't as round as most guitars, yet it has it's own sound and style to it. This sound is a bit sharper than most guitars, and still sounds great. |

This guitar stays in good shape for its price, both sound-wise and physically. Almost all the strings stay in tune for a full week at least. However you may find trouble with the G string as it is the one string that kept coming loose. Yet, this may not happen with the other flying Vs. I also mentioned that the physical guitar is durable. This guitar brings the word solid body guitar to a whole new level. This guitar is literally just as hard as it looks.(it could totally leave a dent in your wall, so be careful) |

I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!!. However, that still doesn't get in the way of the cons that it has. Is is truly a strange guitar, yet for some reason it just suits me. And that is what you should be looking for in a guitar. Don't just get it because your friends like it, or one of you idols play it, look beyond all that and try out guitars that sound to your style and also look he part instead of just reading about them. This Guitar is about a 8.5/10 in my book, but this is just my opinion. And if this guitar interests you, don't just take my word for it. Go try it out! ROCK ON!!! |

Bought it in K?ln Germany, around 2002/3...I forget. The cost was a little high, as most music gear is priced higher in Europe generally. It was 588 Euros, I believe.

I love this guitar. I have played a few other Epiphones before, mainly the SG models, and quite frankly they obviously sucked in every way as far as quality was concerned, which led me to think Epiphone must generally suck. Inullm not sure if I got a lucky one or what, but the V is great. The sound is a nice creamy yet sharp sound which I play without effects through a Marshall stack and provides a great sound for rock, from light to hard. The thing stays in tune forever. Itnulls a matter of personal taste for me, but I find the V to be the most comfortable guitar to play. People complain that you cannullt play it sitting down, but you can: just rest the crook of the "V" on your thigh - simple! There is this stigma that because it says Epiphone that itnulls "just a copy", but the fact is, this guitar looks good, sounds good, plays good - it IS good. Well, at least mine is. Some people have complained about the tuning pegs. Well, I guess it might look nicer if they werennullt plastic, but otherwise I have no problems with them. |

I find this guitar to be the most playable guitar Inullve owned. There is something about its shape which just works for me, I knew it the moment I first tried it. As Inullve mentioned, it stays in tune, and with my Marshall stack, using only the standard footswitch for my distorted sound, I get a great creamy yet sharp rock sound, great for playing anything from 60nulls style to more modern styles of rock. The only bonafide Gibsons I have tried were a Les Paul Studio and a Gibson SG, and the fact is, my V is better than those two particular ones I tried out. But you know, every guitar is different. |

I have noticed that it can produce a bit of high end feedback, especially with effects, which I basically donnullt use... which is just about the only drawback that I can think of. That being said, however, if you know what you are doing, this kind of thing can easily be avoided through tweaking. That might be one area where spending more money on a higher-end guitar might deliver better results. I have two main guitars, this one being my "cheapo", but the fact is, itnulls the best one I have ever played and I use it exclusively for all my demo recordings and band playing, with the other guitar being my spare.

I find the V to be very reliable. It stays in tune, itnulls comfortable to play, the knobs are solid, everything is fine about this thing as a piece of gear. I have banged it around accidentally many times, but itnulls pretty solid and I havennullt done it any damage yet. I suppose I am aware of the fact that a $2000 guitar feels a little more solid, or professional, but ultimately the difference is minimal to me. |

Inullve seen the prices go down dramatically on these things since I bought mine, and anyone looking for a great-looking, great-sounding guitar should consider trying one out. I chose it mainly for its look, as it was the first guitar I had bought after having not played for some years. I was just looking for something nice to use at home as I started to get a band together again, but even after having bought more expensive, "better" brand-name guitars since then, I always come back to the trusty old V as my main one because it simply is a gem. |
