Review DigiTech Death Metal

Review by a visitor on 1.9.2008

I bought it a couple years ago on ebay.30 dollars.

  Features

I have the older one with the single output.
I use a Les Paul Standard ---> DOD death metal ------> Sovtek-Mig50

I COULD afford a triple recto or a marshall or something. But why would I
spend $2000 on an amp head when I can get someting
that sounds just as awesome , if not BETTER
than those expensive things?

  Playability

No gain knob.

If you want a lighter distortion.
Your simply gonna have to put a second pedal
into your chain with your death metal.
I like the Digitech BadMonkey myself...
The Boss DS-1 might be a good option too

  Quality

The footswitch is plastic. But the case is nice and sturdy.
Theyre not as good as Boss pedals in this department.

  Durability

Yes it kills the guitars original tone, but this is a HIGH GAIN PEDAL
who would -want- the "original tone" to come through?

If you are looking for a similar tone but with better
definition in the notes with hi gain chords. Try a Robert Keeley
Modded Boss Metal Zone (mt-2).

  Overall

No regrets...

I bought this on a music store, in dordrecht, when i used to live in the Netherlands, nowadays, i live in Ireland.
I bought it for 64.94 euronulls.......

  Features

It has the full equalizer functions, Low - Mid - High - Level
Although it doesnnullt have gain, the default is set to 11, itnulls 1 more than the default of others,
But you have to alter and play with the low-mid and high, to get the best sound of it, for the style you want

There are a lot of possibilities, itnulls ok very cool, it has a second output, for the remix/record/mic

  Playability

I serious recommend this effect for the one who wants a medium-high quality sound, for a cheap price, with an average overall score

  Quality

Quality of sound is ok, itnulls better than mine Ibanez Smashbox

  Durability

The Death Metal, is pretty solid, itnulls 2-3 times heavier than the normal effects, but itnulls rock solid, with a rubber grip, no worries when you have slicky fingers/feets :P

  Overall

Buy it when you have a low budget

I bought at SAM ASH fvor 40$

  Features

Has the what you need to shape your sound.

  Playability

Death Metal? THis pedal should be named screach metal..All i can get out of it is razor blades.

  Quality

Ok...if your looking for a pedal that has a good HIGH HIGH END distirtion than i quess this pedal is for you...BUT if you really want a thundering distortion . LOOK ELSWHERE!

  Durability

ITs a Digitech,,,what more do you need

  Overall

For some styles of "death metal" this pedal will work...but if your looking for a balls out distortion get a krank stack! If your short on MOney like most musicians
i suggest you look into the krank distortion pedal, Digitech grunge (if you have a
good sounding clean channel), Rocktron ZOmbie\silver dragon, BBE crusher, ALSO..look into a BBE sonic stomp, not a distotion pedal, but all metal heads NEED to use one of these...they will turn your mediorcer amp and pedals into something AMAZING

I was looking for a new distortion pedal, I was getting tired of the boss metal zone. so I went to the american guitar store in Enschede(holland) en tryed/tried(??) this thing out and it was great, so I bought it and Inullm still learning to get new tones out of it!
I paid ?64.95 for it.

  Features

it has no gain knob on it, thatnulls not very cool. but younullll get used to it!
there is a level, low, mid, high. but you can get all out of every frequency, if you know what I mean, from very less low, to too much low, and so on for the mid and high, so you can gat a lott of different styles.

  Playability

it is a very nullheavynull thing, and then I mean the kind of distortion!
pure metal sound, its beter than the boss MT2!

  Quality

the sound quality is great, for the money you payed!
I think itnulls a very good pedal!!
and solonulls are very clear on this pedal!

  Durability

it is a reliable thing, and it doesnnullt slide because of the rubber on the back.

  Overall

I think you should try this one, I think its great. but who am I to tell you.
check it out yourself, and then buy it, or not :D
the distortion is heavy en your solonulls are blown out of your speaker!!

greets Ewoud

I picked this baby up a few weeks ago for 50 bucks at guitar center.

  Features

well, it looks like any other pedal, except that it weighs 3 times more than the average. its got the rubber on bottom to keep it from sliding, its got 4 knobs: Level, which just controls how loud, not really distortion; and low, mid, and high. theynullre really sticky, which is good so they dont move a lot, and its got a battery access thats easier than bossnulls. it also has two outputs; one is for amp, the other is for mixing/recording with its built in "cabinet emulation" so it sounds micnulld up.

  Playability

it has some really mean distortion, and no gain control, so its only setback is that it doesnt put out warm distortion, its all crunch. the eq on it is really good for getting the perfect sound (less the distortion) and when played through the mixer out it sounds a little different, but it is still pretty good

  Quality

itnulls basically the cheaper alternative to the boss metal zone. its got some great tone of distortion, i just use a starter guitar and it doesnt sound bad at all. like all distortion boxes, it has a little bit of hiss while youre not playing, but once you start, the sound goes away.

  Durability

id say that this is the toughest pedal ive seen yet, its super heavy, but the rubber foot pad isnt very grippy, kinda cheap there. id say that its tougher than a boss.

  Overall

i used to play with a ds-1 and i went to guitar center in hopes of finding something a little meaner, and the guy suggested the metal zone, but it was like 80 bucks that i couldnt afford. he showed me some cheaper pedals (digitechs) and the death metal was the most expensive distortion pedal from digitech, and in my opinion, it sounded better than the metal zone anyway so i got it. the eq is my saving grace for distortion, the ds-1 didnt have much eq in anywhere, so this is a big change. im a little sad that it doesnt have gain control, but im not too worried. overall, it could definately be used for death metal. if youre looking for serious distortion but are strapped for cash, this is the best thing.
