Review Crate BX-50 DLX

Review by gx10 on 23.1.2004

I got it at www.Zzounds.com, a VERY good online music store, it was on a Christmas special so it would have been more than 4 or 6 hundred dollars but i got it for $260, they also had free shipping and handling, plus no sales tax, so the flat price was $260 anyway...good store, bookmark it

  Features

The BX-50 DLX is a very good amp, with a 12inch sterio cone in it, its very loud and good for condo living like me, i am not sure how many watts it sucks up, and as usual like any other amp, you get 2 channels a distortion and a normal channel, the distortion channel has a gain, level and shape knob for the tune(like it really matters in overdrive!), but it does make a difference and have its use, so thats not just a marketing thing, the clean channel, (with 4-band rotary), has another unique knob, the octave level so you can put out 2 different freq., your normal bass freq. and one higher or lower than it. it also has an electronic tuner mounted on top, so far, it has been pretty acurate and works fine even though it seems like they have an uncanny ability to break, not neccesarily crate tuners...just tuners in general, so its working fine, i cant forget to mention the jacks for a cd player to play along with, the amp automaticly adjusts to the normal tune of the cd while playing your bass at lower than the cd player music, pretty nifty , also the standard headphone jack
its pretty good for live concerts and just playing at home alike, sounds good at low and high volume, it comes included with a footpedal, an external speaker jack to play w/ more amps,

all in all its a very nice amp, idiot-proof, etc., but it do plan on getting the re-make of the fuzztones footpedal to really bug my neighbors, and get that quality fuzz (what an idea!)that most amps dont have, like i said perfect all-around amp

  Playability

very nice since soom amps only sound good at higher volumes, this all-around good, brings out the music in the bass real nice

  Quality

very good sound quality, the effects are iffy thats why i recommend a fuzz-tone foot pedal, believe me its worth it if you like that stuff, better than most amps of that size

  Durability

Very reliable, doesnnullt need any adjusting, something else neet about it, if the strings are worn out, you can slightly adjust the octave to give it more of a new-string nulltwangnull, like i said perfect for small crowds or waking your neighbors up at midnight with some metallica or black sabbath
