Review Cort Z-22

Review by a visitor on 6.8.2005

I bought this guitar down at a local music shop for around $300 australian. A little overpriced, you can find it cheaper on the net. It was worth it though, it was probably one of the easiest guitars to play on under $800 in the shop.

  Features

This guitar doesnnullt have a huge amount of features, its got a tone knob, volume knob, no whammy. The no whammy isnnullt really a problem though, this guitar is more for begginners and i dont really think new guitarists should use whammy. Has a pickup switcher as well

  Playability

Its an incredibly versatile guitar, I play blues from metal on this thing and it does it perfect. doesnnullt handle surf/beach music to well though, stuff like red hot chilli peppers wont sound 100% on this thing, but its good enuf. The 2 humbucker pickups r excellant quality for such a cheap guitar, they play metal and blues exceptionaly well, which is a strange combination. handles rock and and grunge as well very smoothly. Playing this guitar is very ejoyable, hammer-ons and bends r a lot easier then some guitars inullve played on, and its good to be fast lead parts. I play a lot of Slashnulls stuff, velvet revolver and guns nnull roses, and it is a lot easier to play these on the Z-22, then my mates yamaha pacifica or my other squire strat.

  Quality

Overall the sound quality is pretty sweet, the pickups perform nicely, i would have liked a single coil at the front though. Inullve played through a range of amps from 10watt to 100watt, it sounds nice. Without distortion the notes are incredibly clean and sharp, no noise at all, blues still sound good though. with distortion this guitar sounds even better, stuff like smells like teen spirit sound great.

  Durability

The z-22 is pretty reliable, it needs tuneing every 6 hours of playing though, which isnnullt as great as some guitars. Inullve used this guitar constantly for about a year and its in perfect condition, inullve even dropped it once on concrete when the strap came of. I got it checked out by a friend and nothing was wrong except for a tiny scratch on the paint. Not many guitars are that durable. Tuneing could be better though

  Overall

This is an excellant guitar for begginners, the pickups r great, its durable, tuners r acceptable, and it looks great as well. If younullve been playin longer then a couple of years i suggest buying something a little more exspesnive, but if your buyin your first electric guitar, then this would be an excellant choice.
