Review BC Rich Ironbird

Review by a visitor on 10.10.2009

I bought my BC rich Ironbird about 10 years ago as a second hand in a music store in the Netherlands. (this could explain my faulty englisch) I paid about 220 euro's for it and to get that money I sold my ibanez rg 370 to my regret later on. But I wanted a guitar that looked cool when I was in my teen goth period.

  Features

The guitar was pretty desent but I didn't like the sound of the puckups, they where to warm, so I swopt them with the pickups from an epiphone and an other Les Paul copy that I had laying around. The worst part of the guitar was that it was neck heavey. It droped down when I let go of the neck. I finaly managed to get that out of the way by putting the strep buttons in line with the low E string.

  Playability

With the original strap button location I would say poor bbut now it's good. With the pickups changed and the right pedals it rocks.

  Quality

The guitar can stand my abuse and my ideas to mod my guitar. But because of that it's hard to say. Lets say with my mods I think it sounds good, no noise, no cracks, just a desent instument. But to be honest I'm also glad that I resently bought my self an Ibanez rg 370, because I've missed that guitar so much.

  Durability

I have taken this guitar apart often. I can not remember the factory reliabilaty(??)(sorry I'm still dutch) The black paint was good as a base to paint on. It has seen many colors but now I'm sticking to an aluminium paint. I've air brused some screws and lines on it and made it look like a peace of metal. It's my main guitar in drop C# when I play live with my band, but when I have a gig I juse about 6 guitars inc. a backup guitar. ( I know it's a lot, but hey; If you've got them you might as well show them!!)

  Overall

I will never sell it of smash it. It's like an love and hate relationship.

Hi, I have a BC Rich Ironbird Limited Edition, I play in a progressive Heavy Metal Band. I play a lot of rythm since my friend plays mostly the lead parts. Henulls a kick ass shredder and guess what he plays an Iron Bird too! Except his itnulls a NJ issue. I played it before I bought mine and I loved it. It is also a beautiful guitar and the shape is off the radar. Just one last thing, I resent the point of saying this is a awful guitar, if one hasnnullt realy tried it. Once I tried a Gibson Les Paul on a store and I didnnullt realy like it, still itnulls one of the best guitars Inullve ever seen. So, own one and then tell me how it worked out.

  Features

Itnull a good guitar, confortable and easy to play both standing and sitting. Although I recomend getting a different spot to hold the strap. Using one of the screws on the neck works just fine and it will balance the guitar a lot better. The balance is pretty much the issue of all the BC Rich guitars. Itnulls pretty lousy so I realy mean what I said. Also some new pick ups might improve it a little better. Itnulls quite light though.

  Playability

Very easy to play, the neck pretty much invites one to shred and feel it all the way.
I own a few more guitars, they are average/good quality instruments and this guitar has better looks and playability than my other guitars.

  Quality

No noise, and still some new pickups would hurt.

  Durability

It barely goes out of tune, itnulls very reliable, but like every real guitarist I recomend having a backup. Also be careful with it, and all your guitars. If it falls it might brake or scratch... but why would anyone want to drop it?

  Overall

Itnulls a good guitar. In looks I love it, Itnulls hard to find a decent yet more artistic guitar with such a low price. Most V shaped guitars you find are either lowsy quality or too expensive for most pockets, I guess this is a great choice.

I bought one of these back when i had long hair and time to wash it. paid about 500 pounds for it from my local shop, had to order and wait for it tho...

I loved the shape of it, the warlock were all far too common and who would want a bich?

  Features

obviously pointy, based around a randy rhoads with an extra leg so it can sit on your knee. nice. however after having a flying v for years before i got used to my v standing up, this doesnnullt, so make sure it goes in a case when your finished otherwise it will fall over and it will break the neck, i cried when i done mine

  Playability

i found the neck wonderfull to play, it was fast and had a low profile, but just change the pickups as they are terrible, dimarzionulls worked great, as would any of todays hi output humbuckers, of course you may not want hi output pickups but then you wouldnnullt want to play metal and wouldnnullt want one of these guitars anyway.

  Quality

as said, change pickups and all will be fine.

  Durability

stayed in tune, took plenty of whacks on walls. remember that chips make character, shiny new guitars are not cool. but did break the neck as soon as it hit the floor

  Overall

i am now looking to have a custom ironbird cos they arennullt made any more by bc rich. i am not a child as inullm over 30, but i just love the shape. i have a dean razorback as its pretty similar but i do miss my ironbird. it is all a matter of taste tho people, some will like it and others will not, just have a go, if your hands feel good with it then go for it.

Purchased at the now defunct "Ed Romannulls", well, technically it exists, but not in spirit.
;(

  Features

Letnulls call it what it is, itnulls a solid body guitar, that is exciting to look at, and if younullre a fat slob trying to be cool, younullre going to look pathetic holding this.
But, if you are truly a rock star, this will be a blast to rock-out with!
And like any other solid body guitar, 65% of your tone is in the amp, 25% is whatever pick-up is installed, and 10% depending on the quality of the guitar.

  Playability

Itnulls better than ANY flying "V" shape guitar, but yet a bit pointy and block-like compared to any round shape.
So, I guess it all depends on what younullre used to playing...

  Quality

The bolt on necks are just not as desireable as ANY neck-through, so stick with paying a little extra for the quality, that goes for any model.

  Durability

Big surprise, if you drop this guitar or bump it into something, you get a nice dent.
Show me guitar that you cannullt say that about...

  Overall

If younullre going to play the instrument of a rock star, you might as well experience the whole ride, get yourself an instrument that best represents you!
And if you want b.j.nulls instead of sitting home flipping through the channels, this is the one!

Inullve played the Ironbird for over 12 yrs, and love it. I have a Death Metal band Sabaothic Cherubim and love BC Rich. I own a Warlock, Bich, Virgin and Ironbird (along with several other brands). I see some of the ridiculous comments bashing BC Rich. All I have to say is...try playing one of the real ones, not the cheap ones; then give an inteligent review. Many bands use BC Rich, theynullre good instruments. THe reason I purchased my Ironbird was because of the body style and the BC Rich name. This was the last BC Rich I purchased.

  Features

Awesome intrument; doesnnullt get out of tune (does have a locking nut). Great humbucker with good distortion.

  Playability

Playability is great. Very comfortable and great for solos.

  Quality

Sound quality is great. Nice bass and clean treble. Muting is very powerful. No feedabck or unwanted noise.

  Durability

Very reliable, and awesome for live performances. Inullve played it live several times and donnullt need to re-tune it each time.

  Overall

Excellent...Highly recommended. Try to get an American made one.

Actually I`ve never bought it. i just played it once in a guitar shop... All i needed. And as I can see that many guitar nooblets are writing that this is the best guitar ever, I just couldn`t hold back.

  Features

Actualy a typical rythm guitar. Itnulls not designed for solo play. It completely lacks space on the pickups.

  Playability

Oh for crying out loud, the shape is awful, ok itnulls pretty, but itnulls awful. Itnulls not ment for any real playing, itnulls so uncomfortable. If you are planning on buying this "tool" as a practise instrument... DON`T! The onlyway to play it is by standing.

  Quality

The sound was totally average. Like regular cheap guitars. If you like quality taping this is not what you want.

  Durability

I have no idea of itnulls durability, it looked so frail that i was afraid to touch it. Oh and the head was completely flat, I doubt that the tuning would last long.

  Overall

Well in my humble opinion BC Rich is all show, the guitars are pretty and thatnulls it. It has no quality no sound no nothing. If you are a real musican go and buy soething else. No wonder that no real musicans play on one of these.

I got my Platinum Series BC Rich just over six months ago. I bought it because of its deadly shape and because it was on sale from ?615 down to ?400.

  Features

Great controls and pick ups. The straplock is bigger than n most other guitars though.

  Playability

A great sound and doesnnullt need to be tuned too often.

  Quality

No unwanted noise, plays better than any guitars inullve tried with the same price.

  Durability

Inullve taken a few chips out of the paintwork on the corners of the guitar, until i was used to it.

  Overall

A great, reliable guitar. Brilliant sound especially with effects. Its shape can make it hard to transport though, I have to use an 8 octave keyboard case.
