Review AMT Electronics Fatal Tube

Review by a visitor on 14.3.2006

Got it at pedal Geek out of New York. The guy behind the counter showed it to me and said I should demo it. I think it cost about $125.

  Features

It is unique in the fact that it is from Russia. Great tone control and can go from a smooth clean boost for leads to a harsh chunky grunge style in the twist of a knob. Also, has some sort of emulator built in, making your sound quite large at almost any volume.

it has 6 control knobs, a few more than a few of my other pedals, but it isnnullt confusing. After about 5 minutes I found the sound I wanted, and I think any other guitarist would do the same.

  Playability

Set and go. No problems here. The on/off switch is super smooth. Caused me some confusion when I fist got it, as I was used to a really hard toe tap to get my othe pedlas to switch on.

Good tone control. But, the knobs are kind of suspect.

  Quality

Funky shaped enclosure, but the sound is great. A little noisy on practice amps, but vertually silent when in a larger amp...like a 50 or 100 watt unit. I currently am running a 175 watt head and a 2x12 halfstack. I get no noise from the pedal and the true bypass feature adds no tone change when the pedla is not active. Who ever designed this was on the money! Still if all I had was a 15 watt practice amp I wouldnnullt use this pedal.

Is not a tube pedal, but does have a picture of a tube on it. Ha ha ha....it is a tube emulator. Weird name I think.

  Durability

I have gigged with it quite a few times and havennullt had a problem yet. The knobs are small and the desing of the box is decieving. It looks lightwieght and you would think it was not that duable. Yet, I have had zero problems with it. In fact I carried it around in a backpack for about a month while I was doing some studio work and never had any problems with breakage. As far as readjusting, I use duct tape to keep my settings solid.

  Overall

I really like this pedal. It has eliminated two pedals on my board and for the price I don;t think I could get anything better. I am looking at AMTnulls Tube hall effect right now as a new purchase. I have checked out the MP3 file AMT has online at www.amtnorthamerica.com and I am pretty impressed. The fatal tube has performed well and if I lost it, I would deffinately buy another.

Donnullt get me wrong, the pedal is not the end all be all of pedals. It is a good all around distortion and lead machine, but I still have my Tube Screamer and Red Threat on my pedal board.
